BrushQuirk Painting BrushQuirk is a miniature painting studio currently taking on commission work from single miniatures, to larger armies, and everything in-between.

BrushQuirk is a newly founded miniature painting studio founded by myself, Alex, and my partner Emma in order to showcase our painting work, as well as to open up our painting ability to commission work. I have been painting miniatures now for 12 years, and over the years have won several awards for my work, both nationally and locally, and have prior experience as a commission painter. I will als

o be working alongside my partner Emma, taking her under my wing as an apprentice painter and as part of the studio team, as well as having her assist me with my work, and eventually take on projects and commissions of her own. I will be posting all of mine and Emma's current projects onto this page, as well as using the page as a gallery of any commission work we will be undertaking unless the client specifically requests it not be shown.

After a hiatus of nearly a year (Bar odds and ends which were more nonstarters than anything) I've vowed to complete at least one project each month this year, keeping things fairly tame from the start, and going back to basics a bit.

I started with the worst goat ever.

Today's exciting plan is getting the yellow done on some heavily weathered merc 'jacks!
Now, I've never done salt weathering before, so this will be interesting...

British summertime has returned for the afternoon, and it's the first day in about a month without rain, wind, or a humidity of 90% or more!
As such I've finally had a chance to get some primer on a few warjacks that have been sat on the shelf for over a month.
Next up is prepping the armour weathering, and airbrushing the armour all up to a lovely yellow, for that battered heavy machinery look, with blistered and cracked paint in places, and a whole lot of rust!

This was a little project for the Dark Art Studios 2016 painting comp.
The miniature really called me back to my early days, however I felt like changing things up a little.

Rather than te****le and mace, I went with a tower shield and bladed fist, and sculpted a new head, to be covered with a bone faceplate, giving him a a couple more chins than hands.

It was also an excuse to play with one of the new plinth toppers from Secret Weapon Miniatures and MASSIVE VOODOO.

Fun times!

Another biiiig gap since I last posted! I really need to keep things more regular, but life seems to always be getting in the way!
I'm having a painting splurge this weekend, and have been working on the fat gladiator.

With all this morbid bloated flesh to paint, it makes me glad I spend so much time posing n**e in front of the mirror!

Tmi?

A bit more work! The iridescence is about done, and the gold is started!

New toys syndrome! After the second round of my Monster stuff arriving, and frustrating myself with endless nights of practising NMM, I've spent some time today toying with iridescence!

It needs some more highlights, but the colour placement feels right!
Maybe I can finish the Dung Beetle Knight before distracting myself with something else!

Oh, and also throwing a little something together for a competition by Dark Art Studios. A little bit of sculpting, a little bit of brasswork, and half a big skull to make a chubby barbarian!

More busy weeks, but I managed to find some time to pour some envirotex, and do a whole load of sanding and polishing on the deep water base!
As a note to future me, dont cheap out and use a soft wood for a plinth. Use a hardwood or resin, so it doesnt swell and contract from moisture so much!

'It's March!' They said.
'Throw out the Christmas tree already!' They said.

Why would I do that when I might need to make some underwater vegetation?

Next up, varnishing and making a cage to pour the Envirotex...

A lot of people realise that I very rarely use NMM on anything, and I have an embarrassing confession.
I've not even tried it since about 10 years ago, when I just couldn't grasp it.
Today marks a milestone, in that I've painted a frying pan in NMM, and I'm not disgusted with the result!
Also, a sneak peek at a competition piece for /r/minipainting using a limited palette!

It's been an awfully long time since I posted here last, and an awful lot had been happening in the real world as of late, but I'm still alive!

Due to a change in life circumstances, I am going to be putting commission painting on hiatus, however I will still be working on personal projects when I can, as well as working on some further sculpting work, and am in talks with a company with regards to the casting of Keema and Wiwi following my botched molds and castings!

So, tl'dr, still here, still painting, but with a much busier life these days!
