My essentials for any trip: a Swiss Army knife and a Kindle. What are yours?

The Swiss Army knife has saved me more times than I can count. Opening bottles, cutting up bread or fruit I've bought from a market, the corkscrew for wine, even the tiny tweezers for those annoying stray hairs you can never get otherwise. It does everything. I genuinely don't travel without one.

And the Kindle — where do I even start. I used to be the person carrying actual books in my rucksack. My first big trip, I had about five books weighing me down, and I'd have to find somewhere to swap or sell them once I'd finished. Then Kindles came along and it felt like an absolute dream. Twenty books, weighing nothing, all in one place.

Long train journeys, long bus rides, lazy afternoons on a beach — Kindle in one hand, and when it's time for a cold beer, the Swiss Army knife's already in my pocket ready to open it.

It got me thinking about what I packed as a kid too. We were always allowed our own bag to pack ourselves, and mine had a soft toy dog (Whistler) who went absolutely everywhere with me, a couple of books, and always some pencils and paper.

Funny how some things never really change.

The moment that made all the late nights worth it.

I've had some of the loveliest reactions in person recently — parents flicking through the books at markets and events, telling me their child would love this, watching their face light up at Italy or Scotland.

I don't always manage to capture these moments on camera, but they're the ones that stick with me the most. That's the whole reason I do this. 💛

I've got some more in-person events coming up over the next couple of months, and I cannot wait for more of these moments — and hopefully a few more sales along the way too!
