✏️ We have been supporting our preschool children with their fine motor skills and imagination combined. We have been having seperate preschool sessions to focus on this. This is developing into their own play and the children are now drawing real objects like 'Flora's pink flowers'. Can you guess the other two animals drawn? ✏️

Sign of the Week

At Do-Re-Mi Childminding, we value the importance of encouraging our children to use and recognise sign language. Sign language can help improve communication and with our youngest children it can help them express themselves before they are ready to use words. Amy has created her second video with our signs of the week - Happy and Sad. Have a go with your child at home. Encourage them to use it in their everyday communications.

Promoting reading is important for us at Do-Re-Mi! We read everywhere we go but outdoor reading is one of our favourite activities. We even have blankets to make it a cosy space for our children. (Even the adults love it!)

A different type of climbing set up today. The children climbed into the tuff trays at the end of the day so the very next day we made this a climbing and balancing activity. This was loved by all our children, especially when they learnt it bounced. Yes there is risk in this type of play. But the children are encouraged too only do what they are comfortable with. An adult is there at all times to ensure safety. Great opportunities for physical development.

Pilots of their own play today. 💦 The children have enjoyed an activity using scooping and pouring bubbly water. The children then found if they moved the water more bubbles were made. The children were critical thinkers and obtained the wooden brushes to use. They were having fun, thinking critically and building gross motor skills in the process. This is why our moto is almost always yes! The children know they can explore within limits.

To ensure we provide an enriching curriculum. First, we read a book about growing vegetables. They loved this story as it is relatable to them. Then, we used different sized tools to scoop mud into biodegradable pots. We sprinkled seeds and watered them. The children then became the pilot of their own play and their schema of transportation came out where they moved the soil from the tuff tray too the pot. 🪏

Flora has been busy working on her EYITT course. She has focused on her toddlers and their physical development. As a curiosity approach setting, I have reflected how well we support physical development in all of our age and stages. To further the children's learning we decided too branch further and use Frobelian as our guide. Therefore, we have brought nature too the setting and we are building a vegetable patch. Tomorrow we get to plant the seeds into small pots. Watch this space to see if we can help them grow. 🌾

We have been busy behind the scenes creating some information posters for parents to show the areas of learning. Physical development is one of the three prime areas of learning within the EYFS framework, vital for building a healthy, active, and confident foundation for young children. It focuses on developing gross motor skills (large movements, balance), fine motor skills (precision, hand-eye coordination), and self-care routines. Take a look at posters for toddlers and under 2’s.

Gemma found some great wooden blocks for the children to play with recently. They have really enjoyed making castles, houses and bridges for our Billy Goat Gruff. We managed to introduce some early maths by looking at the different shapes we could see. Next week, we are going to add authentic items to our building areas. 🧱

This week, we have been supporting children’s schemas and fine motor skills at the same time. Currently, we are seeking opportunities to develop the toddlers fine motor skills. To do so, we made a mud tray that they could add the water too, as they wanted. We used pipettes and small watering cans but had other scooping and pouring authentic items ready for them to undertake self led play. 🪣
