It was lovely to meet Mel That Train Driver Mum again at the wonderful Chinnor & Princes Risborough Railway she did so well driving her first loco D1501 / 47 402.

We are hoping she will come along and be the first person to drive 37 216 in the summer at Blaenavon's Heritage Railway

D1501 (47 402) was out working both days again this weekend at Chinnor & Princes Risborough Railway with a full day of Driver Experience courses on Saturday and hauling the Diesel Passenger services today.

D6916 (37 216) was undergoing more tests at Blaenavon's Heritage Railway and will hopefully be in service soon.

Meanwhile at Blaenavon's Heritage Railway 37 216 (D6916) is close to completion and achieving a Fitness to Run (FTR) for line trials. We are told this is the first time it's moved for 15 years so we were thrilled to see this as are many of the volunteers at the railway.

McLaren Rail are pleased to announce a brand new partnership with the Blaenavon's Heritage Railway

As part of this agreement, 37 216 (D6916) will remain at the Pontypool & Blaenavon Railway and will be available for our Diesel Driver Experiences.

We will also be offering our full range of Steam Train Experiences, including Cream Tea services and Discovery Days.

Our customers will be able to enjoy fantastic days out combining Steam Train Rides with visits to local attractions such as Big Pit National Coal Mining Museum.

A great experience for families, enthusiasts and anyone looking for a memorable day out.

31 203 will be leaving Blaenavon for a new home by the summer (to be confirmed) and 47 367 did a short test run at the Chinnor & Princes Risborough Railway today (see video below) where it will continue to be based along with 47 402.

🔥 First start for 47 367 at Chinnor since arriving in mid August 2025 🔥

The first attempt didn’t quite go to plan, with some unexpected “fireworks” from loose battery connections causing arcing and forcing us to abort. Two battery cells were lost in the process.

After replacing them and tightening everything properly, we tried again an hour later and got a clean, successful start in Chinnor yard - the moment we have been waiting for!

Huge credit to Chinnor & Princes Risborough Railway engineering for keeping cool under pressure and getting the job done!
