KENTUCKY HORSES & HISTORY - 7 NIGHT FLY DRIVE🐴

Day 1 Arrive Louisville
Depart the UK on your chosen scheduled flight to Louisville, Kentucky. Upon arrival, collect your rental car and proceed to your hotel.

Day 2, 3 Louisville
Louisville is renowned for the annual Kentucky Derby. Horse racing enthusiasts will enjoy the Kentucky Derby Museum, offering a hands-on experience. A full-scale replica fort in Old Fort Harrod State Park commemorates the first permanent settlement west of the Allegheny Mountains. Frankfort 21mi / 34km
Frankfort is one of the smallest state capitals in America, but full of history. Be sure to explore the Capitol Grounds and the Kentucky History Centre with hands-on activities, interactive exhibits and dynamic collections before a spot of lunch in one of the many downtown eateries. On your way to Frankfort why not visit Midway, a small historic city located between Lexington and Frankfort and a perfect example of small-town southern charm. Here you will find unique shops and good restaurant options.

Day 8
Louisville 55mi / 89km
On your return to Louisville, we would suggest that your first port of call is The Muhammed Ali Center, which has majestic views od Kentucky’s largest city. For lunch, you may like to enjoy freshly smoked BBQ and delicious sides at Fred’s Smokehouse, named after 7th generation Master Distiller Fred Noe. Finally for your last few hours in Louisville why not finish with a Bourbon-themed dinner at Bourbons Bistro, Louisville’s foremost Bourbon bar, located in the historic Clifton district. Saying that it is brimming with art treasures is even disrespectful: romantic charm and history are absolutely unique.

Our Sue is not long back from her River Cruise along the Douro
As seen in the photos, the scenery along the Douro is stunning, incorporating coastal forests, wild seascapes, fertile fields and dramatic valleys to sweeping hillsides covered with olive trees, pine forests and lush meadows.

Among the highlights was a stop at the Spanish border port of Vega de Terrón, for a coach tour to Salamanca. Very relaxing river cruise with spectacular scenery and many opportunities to taste the wine! Our particular cruise included dinner at a family owned winery and a barbecue onboard the ship, which was fantastic.
Unfortunately, the itinerary was slightly disrupted due to the power outage in Portugal, which caused problems with the locks, but the staff and food on APT were superb!

The Douro is the largest river of the Iberian Peninsula starting in Porto and finishing in Duruelo de la Sierra in the Spanish province of Soria. There are 6 bridges along the Douro, the main bridge being the Dom Luis, and there are also 5 locks to contemplate.
The Douro Valley is famed for being the oldest wine-growing region on the planet and a large section of it was even made a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2001.
