Being in the Cabinet War Rooms today, Sunday 12th May made me think about these words. 84 years ago Churchill was at Chartwell probably writing these words as he prepared to give his inaugural speech as PM on Monday 13th May. And it made me wonder how appropriate these words also are today. He continued the speech with the words "Victory at all costs—Victory in spite of all terror—Victory, however long and hard the road may be, for without victory there is no survival".

Today at Westminster Abbey, a memorial to Ernest Shackleton will be unveiled. Commemorating a true story of determination, courage, and strength. In 1907 Shackleton set sail with 300 bottles of Mackinlay Rare Old Highland Malt on board. The journey was abandoned along with 11 bottles of the whisky. 100 years later in 2007 they were discovered frozen in the ice. They were still drinkable and this bottle is a commemoration of the original. I'll be unveiling this later!!
