The High Court has overturned Eric Pickles’ decision to block a 24MW solar farm in Suffolk. Contrary to Pickles assertion, the High Court concluded that the proposed solar farm represented an “insignificant harm to the character and appearance of the area”. Elsewhere, BMW group’s Mini plant in Oxford is the latest UK factory to turn to solar in order to combat escalating energy costs. The 3MW solar array, combined with LED lighting, water harvesting systems and a number of other environmental features will help significantly lower the plant’s carbon footprint. Solar in the UK will lead the charge towards zero subsidies for renewables, according to the minister for climate change, Greg Barker. Speaking at Solar Media’s Making CfDs Work for Solar event, the minister explained that the switch to Contracts for Difference would leave the sector ‘stronger and nimbler’. However, attendees remain concerned over the lack of information on budget and allocation frequency. Elsewhere, MAP Environmental has revealed that it already has a 400MW pipeline planned following its £400 million deal with ZNShine Solar.
