Back in the summer... we hatched about 20 peacock butterflies from caterpillars we'd collected about a month earlier. We released them in July with the children watching.
My aunt used to do this every year when she was teaching... she told me they always emerged just before the end of term, and we've found that too! 🙂

What could be more exquisite than this? A male common blue butterfly in our field this afternoon; it landed on a buttercup and I managed to encourage it onto my thumb, where it obligingly opened its wings for these photos.
