Worlds 1st Railway Bridge, Skerne Bridge, Darlington. Save it THE WORLD 1st EVER RAILWAY BRIDGE, Skerne Bridge, Darlington. 1825. Stephenson. Now lost in a derelict area at the back of a scrap yard in Darlington.

THE WORLDS FIRST RAILWAY BRIDGE EVER. Skerne Bridge 1825. Darlington. Part of the worlds 1st ever railway , Stockton - Darlington. The invention that changed the whole world forever. Railway bridges span the world now in magnificent feats of Engineering, but this was the very 1st one. In its time people were terrified of the railway and the massive construction of this bridge shows their concern,

today we take it all for granted. The bridge is now in a derelict area at the back of a scrap yard in Darlington. We want to celebrate this great worldwide site of importance with an event on its birthday on its site, in September 2015. We want to make it accessible for interested visitors in future, clearly signposted and listed in the local tourist information office with map. I'm sure the town is very proud of this world famous site. It wont be difficult, I'm quite sure the local council will support us. Please put a 'like' to support us on this page.

Last night was the eve of the invention of The Stockton Darlington Railway, 27th September 1825. It changed the world. Skerne Rail Bridge was the centre piece of it. Pictured here. It happened here in the North East. I'll let you into a secret though on the day before the famous day, the older brother of George Stephenson ran Locomotion, the engine, secretly, along the line with a few of the directors of the company in a truck behind . Imagine what people might have thought standing in their fields along the line last night in 1825 as Locomotion passed by, clunking and hissing it's way. Raise a glass to a time when science, skill, commerce and politics came together and achieved something remarkable. I am. Cheers JT

Yesterday. The marquee was half built getting ready for tomorrows FREE Event on Stockton High Street to celebrate the running of Locomotion 1, George Stephenson, Stockton Darlington Railway 1825. Ill be there all day as part of the event talking bout Skerne Bridge on it, which makes it the Oldest Passenger Railway Bridge in The WORLD still in operation!!!! . And its here in Teesside. Come see me. 10am - 4pm. JT
