As the human created world seems to be ramping up on the craziness! I find the longing to be still in nature, with nature, as nature tucking at my heart increasingly.

The very first thing we do on our 3-day walks and wild camps on Dartmoor is to lay down on the ground to rest, this way we begin the journey of getting to know the landscape and our bodies in relationship with it.

We allow ourselves to begin to realise the difference between the projection and expectation of the journey we have arrived with, and that of the actual current experience of the sounds and smells of the landscape…the sensation of sun on our skin-wind on our body…the slow rhythm of our breathing rising and falling against the still ground beneath us.

This journey is as much into the beautiful, isolated, and peaceful landscape of Dartmoor, as it is a journey into the vastness of silence.

Within silence much can be heard.

I often hear people on the walks express some nervousness before joining about the silent aspect of the journey, unsure whether unattended feelings and thoughts might surface and be overwhelming within the silence.

Silence does leave space open for emotion and thoughts to emerge and these walks are often healing in so many beautiful and intimate ways.
But not as we might imagine, this is perhaps the upersit of talk therapy; we don’t analyse and dive into the stories related to the emotions, instead they surface within the immense grounding that happens in us as we spend time in meditative silence in nature.

Whatever arises here is experienced in the context of a much wider perspective than the self-centred overtly human centred position… we don’t need to understand this connection/relationship intellectually, it happens naturally in the body and is felt even without naming it…I often hear people express a new found sense of resourcefulness, calm, and sense of future possibilities after a journey…

It is good in these times to remember deep in our souls that we are ā€œa partā€of a world infinitely more beautiful and mysterious than the contracted human bubble we call reality…

We begin in April you are invited.

Solo time in nature for me is about removing the external noise...listening to the internal noise amplified by the silence...and then opening my eyes and heart to the vastness of nature, it’s a recalibration, an emptying and a filling at once... it’s a deep and oh so nurturing joy awakened by being a part of this incredible life force šŸ’š

On our weekend walks we aren’t alone, but this is still what it is all about in our small groups...our walking without talking, our meditations and our morning solo time all supports this reconnection to our own nature internally and externally šŸ’š

When we walk and sleep on the moor as we do for 3 days, we walk into a landscape which is huge, powerful and demands attention of us. A simple act like walking which all of us do all the time without thinking twice about, transform’s into a type of dialogue between our bodies and the land.

We experience this landscape through our own bodies and it’s senses, walking in this way is as much an external activity as it is an internal one.

We might be new to the landscape in some sense, yet our feet has evolved into what they are through thousands and thousands of years of walking...there are parts of us that remembers, that reawakens to the scent of a river, or to the sound of wind in a tree, of course there is.

And it feels good and humbling to connect with life/nature and this sense of breadth which we are born from.

To trust and rest in the ancient wisdom of nature.

I wish you a lovely Sun day

Waking up to emails like this šŸ’š

I’m writing to thank you for a wonderful three days on the moor. I learnt so much from the spaces opened up by the rhythms of silence and conversation, movement and stillness, and isolation and togetherness that you instilled in the weekend. Amidst all the fine lines you walk as a guide, I particularly appreciated the balance you struck between absolute sincerity and lightness of touch - it left room for the experience to unfold for each of us. I loved experiencing the moor, and I suppose that big world beyond the self more generally, in new ways - it’s such a beautiful, compelling place. I imagine you get a lot of this, but it really did feel transformational - I’m so interested to see what sticks in the coming days and weeks. It was a fun weekend, too - thanks.

Image from a sunny July walk a few years back...nothing better than that feeling in the body after a long day of walking! It is a strange thing that we live in our bodies but often don’t pay much attention to them in the everyday moments of our lives...walking in nature changes that instantly šŸ’š

One of the 10 best wellness trips for 2021 according to Sunday Times Travel Section today, so very pleased! And of course I could not agree more, there haven’t been a time more apt than this one to submerge ourselves in the restorative affects of being in nature.
Something tells me it is going to be a wonderful season of Wandering Wild coming up. I wouldn’t wait to long to make your booking...the weekends might very get fully booked like last year!
