Torsion Construction have named Phoenix Group as the winner of their February Subcontractor Performance League Scores for the Hollis Croft project in Sheffield.

Meanwhile, Bailey Kelsall is the recipient of the project’s Monthly Health and Safety Star Award!

This award comes from our Hollis Croft SFS/project in Sheffield, where the team have been hard at work executing the SFS for this high-rise BTR scheme.

Once finished, the site will include a 17-storey tower, a 7-storey block and multiple communal spaces in the city centre.

It feels great to receive this recognition after just one full month on site and, when asked to nominate an operative who best represents the values of safety, teamwork and culture on site, Bailey was an easy choice for us.

Never faltering when it comes to using the correct PPE and demonstrating an innate and invaluable awareness of site safety. He is an asset to have on site.

We want to say a big well done to Bailey for his award, and the wider Phoenix Drywall division for setting and maintaining high standards on site.

A special thanks also goes out to Den Architecture, Kingspan Group, and Torsion Construction for collaborating with, and supporting us, during this project.

Last month, the Mexborough Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) project was successfully completed on the 12-month anniversary of the project starting.

The Mexborough CDC building, which is replacing the current mobile CT and MRI units, will enable an additional 68,000 appointments a year and create a better experience for patients and staff, as it will include:

- State-of-the-art CT and MRI scanning suites
- Two ultrasound suites
- A spacious waiting area
- Additional clinical support spaces.

For this project, we collaborated with a valued client of ours, IHP, and, as part of this collaboration, we supplied and installed a masonry package.

It was a great collaboration effort, and we thoroughly enjoyed working with IHP – and them us, as they shared these kind words with all the suppliers:

“The success of the project has been a real team effort by you and your teams. A real big thanks from me to everyone for making the job as successful, enjoyable and rewarding as it has been.”

Fantastic job on this one; thank you to everyone in the team who contributed to this project, with a special thanks to Ian Owen (who was the Manager of this nine-week project), Wayne Addison (who was the Contracts Manager), Jason Cordova (who was the QS), and P+HS (who were the architects).

We are thrilled to announce the winners of this month's Phoenix Awards! These awards recognise the outstanding achievements and contributions of

Brickwork -
The Brickwork award this month goes to Jordan Postlethwaite! Jordan, who is currently working at Wates – Amberton, has been awarded this month’s Brickwork award because he is 100% reliable, never late, very helpful to Ian by organising the labourers on a daily basis, and works hard.

Drywall -
Darren Burkinshaw has shown high professionalism whilst working on the last few drywall projects. His skills and knowledge of installing SFS, alongside his SSSTS expertise means he’s the perfect team player and can help cover our site manager if required. Well done, Darren, keep up the good work!

Scaffolding -
Congratulations to Ashley Maddison and Derren Abbott for receiving our Scaffolding award this month. Both Ashley and Darren were presented with this award for their fantastic work on the truss out at HMP Bullingdon. They both worked brilliantly alongside each other in a MEWP at a high level to complete the task. Great work from both; Very well done!

Office -
This month’s office award goes to Dean Roe! Dean won this month’s award for his continued hard work. He always goes above and beyond what’s asked. His helpful nature and willingness to support all departments make him a great asset to the team. Congratulations, Dean!

We are delighted to share that we are making great progress on our Radmarsh Road student accommodation project for Torsion Construction. The lads are working hard, and the site is really starting to take shape!

Once complete, this development will offer accommodation for 297 students across six floors, complete with stunning views of the Jubilee Campus.

We’re proud to be helping to broaden and diversify Nottingham’s vibrant student life and can’t wait to see the finished results.

A huge well done to the site team for their skill, hard work, and dedication in delivering high-quality brickwork and keeping the project moving forward.

Welcome to the team, Ellie 👋

Ellie, our apprentice quantity surveyor, recently joined us.

We asked her how she was feeling about joining us, and here’s what she said:

“I'm very excited to not only have a great job now, but also to set up a career for myself in the future. I learn the best doing a more hands-on approach... I also love that I'm trying something new every day, and no two days are the same.”

Bani, our Project Quantity Surveyor, shared her thoughts about Ellie’s progress:

“Working as a Quantity Surveyor at Phoenix is dynamic, fast-paced, and rewarding, and Ellie has embraced it effortlessly. She is inquisitive and already demonstrating a strong work ethic. Having started at Phoenix as a trainee myself, it’s incredibly fulfilling to now support the development of another aspiring professional—it feels like coming full circle. Time to shine a spotlight on our successful bricklaying apprentices.

Thomas Griffiths and Oliver Thomas recently completed their bricklaying apprenticeship and are now working full-time with us.

It’s been a fantastic journey watching these two young men learn, grow, and become a valuable part of our team. Congratulations to both of you for passing your apprenticeship!

Olly has summarised his experience of the apprenticeship programme…

Q: How did you find your apprenticeship with Phoenix?
A: I found it fun and very challenging.

Q: Would you recommend doing an apprenticeship with Phoenix?
A: Yes, I’d recommend it as I always had someone to turn to for help, they put time into you and don’t make you feel used as a labourer, they get you hands on with the tools and support you throughout the whole process.

Q: What would you say to anyone starting their apprenticeship?
A: Some days you’re going to enjoy it and some days it's going to be hard, be determined and resilient as well as attentive and proactive.

Q: How did your apprenticeship affect you on-site?
A: Every day is a learning day even after your apprenticeship, I find work more interesting and engaging. I now get more responsibility and am more confident in my work.

We’re excited to announce the winners of January's Phoenix Awards! These awards celebrate the hard work done by and allow us to thank the people who are responsible for our projects!

Brickwork - Mark Higham was nominated for the Brickwork division award this month for his efforts on the Area Point Job and doing such a good job on this project, that’s set out to be the tallest building in Yorkshire! Congratulations, Mark 👏

Drywall - For our Drywall division, Allan Banton won the Drywall award this month. Allan won this month’s award because he is always keen to get stuck into any projects, regardless of location and type of work. Thank you for all your hard work, Allan!

Scaffolding - Jacob Richardson won this month’s Scaffolding division award. It was a well-deserved win, as he is always easy to work with and has shown amazing collaboration efforts at Brookmead Academy. Well done, Jacob 😊

Office – Meanwhile, over in our Office division awards, Jason Cordova has proved himself worthy this month for such an honourable title! Jason was nominated for being easily approachable, helping when asked, hard-working, and just cracking on. “A great example of a Senior QS”. Congratulations on winning this month’s award, Jason!

This development showcases a perfect balance of modern design and traditional craftsmanship, making it a true architectural highlight in the city. The façade features a dynamic mix of projecting and stretcher brickwork, creating depth and texture that draw the eye. Adding a local touch, the Sneinton Market signage, spelled out in crisp white brick, pays homage to Nottingham’s rich heritage. The design is further elevated by the seamless integration of curved and projecting panels, which bring a unique flow to the structure, while the soldier coursing parapet detail adds a refined finishing touch.
