Traffic was bad in Penmaenpool and down the Mawddach Trail today 🙊

The annual walk down from the mountain farm to the sheds for winter, passing by the cottages 🐮lucky our lovely cows know the way home!

Another changeover day is almost here at the cottages and our farm sheepdog Jade is always around to offer a helping smile and supervise with cleaning 🧹 🐾

On 22nd July 1966 fifteen people, among them four children, were killed in a ferry boat accident in the Mawddach Estuary near Dolgellau. Thirty-nine people were on board the Prince Of Wales ferry as it was nearing the end of its pleasure trip from Barmouth to the George III hotel when the tragedy happened. The skipper was manoeuvring the boat towards the jetty when the vessel was washed into the wooden toll bridge at Penmaenpool and the passengers were thrown into the fast-running incoming tide.

Rescue efforts were initiated by the hotel's proprietor, John Hall, who along with his daughter Christine and the hotel's chef, David Jones and barman, Robert Jones, entered the water to take survivors ashore. Mr Hall's wife, Meinir and their youngest daughter Gail, then tended to those rescued in the hotel.

Dolgellau - our local market town 🏘️

This charming little town is just a 5 minute drive from the cottages, and hosts numerous local businesses. From cafes, restaurants, shops, excellent pubs, bakeries, salons etc. And if you’re in luck with the timing there are often great local events on, such as Sesiwn Fawr, Ras y Gader, Dolgellau Carnival, the beer & ale festival... just to name a few!
