Brandy Row sewer works complete (April 2025)

Completion of Chesil Cove sewer improvements:-
This refers to a programme of improvements being made at the eastern end of Chesil Beach, as part of Wessex Water’s continued commitment to reducing the release of untreated wastewater via storm overflows. Storm overflows are designed to operate automatically to protect homes from flooding when the sewerage network becomes overwhelmed during heavy or prolonged rainfall.
This £1 million investment was to intercept an overflow pipe which ran out to the beach through a section of the sea defence wall between Brandy Row and Quiddles Café, while adding more capacity to the existing sewer system. Starting in January, the project was designed to enable flows to be redirected to a large diameter sewer near the junction of Chiswell and Brandy Row.
The 12-week construction saw two teams operating and, thanks to their efforts, I’m pleased to say that this project has now been completed on schedule, with all on-road work concluded and flows to the overflow pipe on Chesil Beach stopped and diverted to the network.
We will continue testing and commissioning the network to ensure it is working as it should but would like to thank the local community and businesses for their patience, co-operation and understanding during this important scheme.
