My favourite photograph from a week in (a new UNESCO Global Geopark!). The road bends around Clach a'Chath, the battle stone aka the Cat Stone). The road makers wanted to blow it up and even drilled the shot holes. But local people protested and the rock is still here! Around 150 tonnes of very solid granite.

Arran Geoblitz this weekend, visiting in the newly established Arran - hyperkeen team of 20 volunteers have visited 15 sites so far. And as the light fades at the end of a beautiful sunny day, text is being written, grid references checked and photos uploaded

I've been in Fife this week with a group on a Georetreat. Local exploration with good company, good food and especially, good geology. We finished on a high, with a visit to a freshly exposed volcanic vent margin near Elie. Such beautiful, messy rocks!
