I’m incredibly grateful to have been invited by Holiday Best to join an upcoming FAM (Familiarisation) Trip to Antalya, Türkiye.

As many of you know, Türkiye is one of my specialist destinations & somewhere I’m hugely passionate about. Whilst I already help hundreds of clients plan their perfect Turkish holiday, there’s simply no substitute for experiencing a destination first hand.

One thing people often don’t realise is that FAM trips aren’t just a holiday for travel agents. They’re carefully planned educational trips designed to give us invaluable knowledge that we can bring back to our clients. The days are packed with hotel visits, destination experiences, supplier meetings & research, allowing us to really understand what we’re recommending & who each hotel is best suited to.

✨ Day 3 in Iceland 🇮🇸❄️

We kicked off Day 3 with a walking tour of Reykjavík, the perfect way to get a feel for the city’s mix of history, humour & hidden gems. One of the first stops was the oldest tree in Reykjavík, planted in 1884. It’s a small but charming landmark, tucked beside the statue of Skúli Magnússon, often called the “Father of Reykjavík.”

Not far away we found one of the city’s quirkiest sculptures called The Unknown Bureaucrat. Iceland has no army, so this tongue-in-cheek statue feels like a tribute to the civil servants who quietly keep the country running. The figure’s body is carved into a giant block of stone, briefcase in hand. An odd & memorable piece that tells its own little tale about the hidden & sometimes thankless work behind the scenes.

We passed the beautiful Edition Hotel & its Sunset Bar on our way to the Volcano Express, located in the Harpa Concert Hall & Conference Centre. The Volcano Express is an immersive volcanic experience which is part film, part ride, where you feel the shake & heat of Iceland’s raw geological power. Short but seriously impressive!

Outside the church we came across the statue of Leif Erikson, the explorer Icelanders proudly claim as the true discoverer of America long before Columbus “found” anything.

After the tour we headed out to The Viking Village for lunch. It’s a quirky, themed spot with loads of character. The full Viking performers only appear for big group bookings, so we didn’t get the live action Viking experience ourselves, but the place still has that fun, saga inspired atmosphere.

Next up: The Blue Lagoon! A dreamy soak in those warm, milky blue geothermal waters was exactly what we needed after all the walking & sightseeing. Total bliss.

We headed back to the hotel to freshen up before our final evening. Icelandair treated us to a lovely meal at Caruso, a cosy little restaurant with the most incredible playlist. We were having such a good time singing away that we momentarily forgot we had a bus to catch for the airport at 4 am the next morning!
