🇬🇧 Travel Tip: Fueling up – Diesel and Petrol in the UK
All Celtic Legend rental cars come with a full tank of fuel, and we ask that you return the car with a full tank too – it’s simple, fair, and avoids any surprise charges.
Here are a few helpful tips for filling up in the UK:
⛽ Know your fuel type – Check the inside of the fuel flap or your rental agreement. In the UK, it's mostly diesel or unleaded petrol (E10). Putting in the wrong fuel can cause serious damage and cost you dearly.
📍 Petrol stations are self-serve – You’ll fill the tank yourself, then pay at the counter or card machine. Most major stations accept contactless and chip-and-PIN cards.
🕰️ Opening hours vary – Many motorway service stations are 24/7, but rural stations may close in the evenings or on Sundays. Plan ahead if you're heading somewhere remote.
💳 Paying at the pump – Some stations pre-authorise a large amount on your card (often £100), but only charge for what you use. This isn’t a fee – it clears automatically.
📱 Apps help – Google Maps or apps like "PetrolPrices" or "Motorway Services UK" can help you find nearby fuel stations, especially useful before airport returns.
✈️ Topping up before drop-off – There are fuel stations close to all our return locations. If you're unsure, just ask us – we're always happy to help with directions.
Safe travels, and thank you for fueling up before heading home!
