📌 Glasgow, Scotland⁣.......................................................................⁣⁣⁣
⁣
While we should be enjoying a lovely self-catering staycation at the coast, we’re back to Glasgow local park trips for a little while longer. This week we should have been heading off on our first overnight trip in over a year but it’s back to sticking local for us. Unfortunately, coronavirus is still here and it decided to take a little surge here in Glasgow and on Monday, our adventures out of the city, including day trips, had to pause again. While Glasgow didn’t take a step back, the rest of Scotland managed to move to a lower restriction level and since travel isn’t allowed between different levels, Glasgow has ended up in its own bubble once again. This time round was actually a last minute change to guidance so our travel plans had to be cancelled with only a few days to go highlighting that we're not out of the woods just yet and we all need to keep paying attention to local guidance.⁣
⁣
We’re hoping this is just a temporary setback for Glasgow and we can join the rest of our fellow travel lovers exploring Scotland soon!⁣

So, it's been almost a week since Scotland's latest easing of lockdown where non-essential shops and hospitality opened, and travel restrictions lifted to allow travel right across Scotland and the UK.

Our first travel adventure is in the planning but we're still taking all the precautions we can. We're not rushing to the shops, the pub or any busy location any time soon but secluded self-catering with some outdoor options? Yes, please.

Today, Scotland's travel restrictions ease to allow people within Scotland to travel further and explore outside their local area. It is a welcome update to the current lockdown rules but it's important to stick to the guidance and keep everyone safe.

Scotland is slowly making steps out of the latest lockdown and yesterday the Scottish Government announced an expected date for domestic travel and tourism to begin at the end of April. We are looking forward to a stay away but actually just being able to travel a greater distance so that we can go on some walks further from home will be amazing.⁣

This photo was taken late last summer when restrictions had eased and we were able to drive an hour over to the Pentland Hills for a walking adventure. We managed to get a perfect sunny day but this feels like such a distant memory now. Fingers crossed that all the numbers continue to go in the right direction and we can get out to explore soon!⁣⁣

📌 Royal Burgh of Culross, Fife, Scotland⁣.......................................................................⁣⁣⁣
Always a favourite for the Outlander enthusiast but Culross (that's pronounced "coo-riss") is a beautiful place to explore even if you have never watched an episode of the Scotland-based drama. ⁣
⁣
Now famed as a filming location, this is just one of many amazing historical spots in Culross including Culross Abbey, Culross Palace and gardens, Dunimarle Castle and scores of picturesque cobbled streets. While I'm sure they will be quiet right now, be warned, when tourism kicks off again, make sure to arrive early if you want to avoid the busy tour groups. ⁣

The 25th of January is a special day for Scots. It celebrates the life and work of poet Robert Burns.

Each year, both here in Scotland and across the world, people mark the occasion with a traditional Burns Supper complete with poetry recitals, special meals, ceilidhs and a wee dram. While it will be a somewhat smaller affair for most this year we’ll still have our haggis, neeps and tatties ready here in our house.

📌 St Abbs Head, The Scottish Borders, Scotland⁣⁣⁣⁣.......................................................................⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
We’ve really been missing our usual outdoor exploring.

In Scotland, we can now only leave the house for essential purposes again and any exercise must be undertaken within your immediate area so we’re certainly feeling wanderlust for natural areas further afield.

One of our last outings, during the brief respite from pandemic restrictions, was to St Abbs Head back in September. A stunning spot that was fairly quiet for a weekend. Seabirds in nesting season and beautiful coastal views but the place has become more well known in recent years from a certain movie. For those Marvel fans, you might recognise this view from the drive into New Asgard. Neighbouring St Abbs also doubled as the Asgardian town itself in Avengers: Endgame.⁣⁣⁣⁣

It has been rather cold in Glasgow this week. While we've not managed to get the heavy snow of other places around Scotland, it's still been looking pretty wintery.

Today we got out before the crowds to enjoy a chilly (-5C) wander around Linn Park.

Nice to see the sledgers getting going as we headed home. ❄🛷
