Every great whisky starts life as an "ugly duckling." Fresh from the still, new-make spirit is raw, colourless, and often harsh. But when nurtured in an exceptional oak cask over many years, it gradually transforms into something elegant, complex, and beautiful.

Just like the ugly duckling becoming a swan, whisky's true potential only emerges through patience, time, and the right environment.

If you like whisky and plan to visit Scotland soon, here are 10 distilleries we think are worth a visit. In this case, we are featuring 10 beautiful distilleries with distinctive pagoda roofs (or cupolas), an architectural feature designed by Mr Charles Doig, a famous 19th-century architect who designed several whisky distilleries
across all of Scotland. Although technically cupolas, they earned the nickname “pagoda” because their layered, exotic shape resembled traditional Asian architecture.

If you visit Scotland, make sure you follow the Pagoda sign.

I visited Flakirk Distillery, and I was pleasantly surprised by three things:

It’s a relatively new distillery that has recently opened for visitors and tours. It is also conveniently located between Glasgow and Edinburgh, approximately 50 minutes from each city. You can travel by train from either city and alight at Polmont Station. From there, you can either walk (about 23 minutes) or take a taxi from the station (around 2 minutes).

At the end of the tour, you can taste and bottle your whisky directly from the cask, which I believe is a major incentive to visit. On this occasion, it was a sherry cask at natural strength, and it was fantastic!

Another interesting thing I learned during the visit was about their water source: an on-site artesian spring well. Sourced from deep beneath the distillery grounds, this natural underground aquifer provides remarkably pure water.

Because the water naturally filters through layers of rock and soil before reaching the well, it requires minimal treatment, contributing to the light, delicate character of their new make.

Would you visit the Falkirk distillery for the chance to bottle your own whisky directly from the cask?

Women's rugby and whisky might not seem like an obvious pairing at first… but both are built on passion, character, resilience and unforgettable moments.

With the Women's Six Nations drawing record crowds and inspiring fans across Europe, we thought it would be fun to pair each nation with a whisky that reflects its on-pitch personality. We've put together a selection of European whiskies, from bold Scottish drams and fiery Irish whiskey to creative Italian and French whiskies you may never have tried before.

A celebration of women's rugby, European whisky culture and the stories that connect them both 🏉🥃

Which dram would you pick for your team?

Few sports events are as iconic as rugby’s biggest annual tournament (at least, in the northern hemisphere): The Six Nations Championship. Every year, national teams from England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Italy and France compete to lift the coveted trophy, making it one of the most-watched…
