This is Star Castle on St Mary's, Isles of Scilly. It was built in 1593 to defend the Isles against a possible Spanish attack and is now an award-winning hotel.

I'm absolutely thrilled to say that I'll be staying here next May as I've just been booked by Brookland Travel Heritage and Garden Tours to lead a five-day historical exploration of the Isles, which will based at this fantastic hotel. It's a small-group tour and places are limited, so if you've ever dreamed of exploring these magical islands this might be the time to act!

As I'll be leading some Medieval Paris tours for Travel Editions Editions next year I've broken my journey home from Burgundy and I'm spending a couple of days in the city of my grandmother to check out some old haunts.
