our group are just back from a great week in the Bavarian Alps, with some exciting butterflies amongst the week's highlights, including multiple sightings of Camberwell Beauty, Woodland Brown and Dusky Large Blue, with Geranium Argus, Cynthia's Fritillary and Alpine Grayling adding to the excitement.

And thanks to the Eurostar and Germany's well-connected train network, all seen without having to step foot in an airport or spend time in a minibus.

turf studded with colourful alpine flowers; mountain butterflies included Dewy Ringlet, Alpine Grizzled Skipper and Peak White; Water Pipits and Snowfinches song-flighting; and an Alpine Chamois spotted from Germany's second highest cable car

under cloudy skies, and fueled by apfelstrudel, we wandered across the amazing fen meadows of Pulvermoos

a mess of Dactylorhiza genes stretched from the creamy Dactylorhiza incarnata subsp ochroleuca to the elegant Dactylorhiza traunsteineri, with Marsh Helleborine and Musk Orchids amongst them.

today's dose of louseworts came in the spectacular form of King of the Moor alongside the more expected Marsh Lousewort

Dusky Large Blue, False Heath Fritillary and Lesser Marbled Fritillary were on the wing, with Honey Buzzard overhead and Marsh Warblers singing
