Last week, Wheels McKendrick and I took our own van up to Glen Etive for a wee overnighter, watching the stars and hoping for a glimpse of the aurora.
The next day, while walking out of the Hidden Valley, we were doing the usual, saying good morning to folk as we passed. I noticed a young girl do a double-take, which does not happen very often these days, unfortunately!
As we passed, she said in a beautiful Belgian accent, โIs that you, Craig?โ
It turned out to be Laura and Simon from Belgium, who we had helped a few years ago after they were stranded at Edinburgh Airport by a fly by night hire firm. We managed to get them sorted with a van at the last minute and had them back on the road later that same afternoon. Such a nice couple, it was great to be able to help.
Honestly, I can barely see three feet in front of me these days, so faces are often just a blur, but I was absolutely delighted they stopped me.
They told us they had fallen in love with Scotland despite what could have been a complete disaster of a first trip. This time, they were back, although they had hired a motorhome instead. Apparently, they wanted a few more home comforts - I get that!! ๐
It genuinely made my day. Moments like that remind you why you do what you do and take pride in it.
A random meeting in Glen Coe, under the mountains, with people whose holiday you helped save years agoโฆ brilliant.
Scotland has a funny way of bringing people back....
