Mental health affects one in four people at some point in their lives, according to an article by CIPD.

As well as having a framework to support people if they experience poor mental health, it’s essential to promote good mental health throughout the workforce. Developing your emotional literacy is vital to supporting employees mental health, says Samaritans CEO Ruth Sutherland.

20/03/2019

88% of employees believe a company’s mental health strategies are important when choosing a role, a survey shows.

In contrast, no employers believed professionals would consider mental wellbeing support strategies extremely important.

The research also revealed that employers (99%) and professionals (97%) are widely in agreement that businesses have a responsibility to support the mental health of their staff. However, just 51% currently have a policy in place to support their staff.

If, as an employer, you'd like to understand more about how to sensitively manage work-related mental health, please click here for details on our seminar taking place on 24th April at 8am in Southampton: http://ow.ly/8LOW50nBiHR

Creating a mental health-friendly culture

If you’ve established an environment that supports mental health, it can be the difference between someone feeling comfortable to speak out early on about their struggles and tackling them, or keeping things bottled up. Read more by our partner Breathe.

The responsibility lies with the employer to ensure their employees mental health is being looked after, but legally, what are you liable for, and what steps can you take to look after your employees’ mental health?

Employment contracts......How often should you review them?

Regularly is the answer. It's one of the best ways to reduce the risk of a dispute arising by having up-to-date, signed and accurate employment contracts in place. Reviewing contracts regularly can help to mitigate against problems further down the line.

COMPETITION: Simply like and comment on this post for the chance to win 30% off an employment contract review with one of our senior HR specialists.

Have a read of this contracts article by our partner, Breathe HR, and let us know how we can help you to manage yours. With over 20 years' HR experience, we offer value, practical advice and a friendly, positive attitude.

When you take on any staff whether temporary or permanent, full- or part-time, it’s a good idea to have some form of written agreement in place that lays out everyone’s role, rights and responsibilities - otherwise known as an employment contract. But which terms are legally binding?

Our Story

We work in partnership with business owners who take an ethical approach to the way they run their business and are committed to developing their business through their people.

Running a business can be challenging, and most of us relish that challenge. But few business owners really relish the challenges of people management, HR and employment law. That’s when problems can arise and employer–employee relationships can break down.

The truth is, if you have the right HR partner it’s often a simple case of following sound practices that keep your business out of hot water. But this can be time consuming, taking your time and attention away from business-critical tasks. And if you opt for in-house support, HR is an additional fixed overhead cost.

Outsourcing your HR needs to someone who really knows your business is the ideal solution.
