🍷 Cyprus - A Hidden Gem for Wine Lovers 🇨🇾

When people think about Cyprus, they often picture golden beaches, crystal-clear waters and year-round sunshine.

What many don’t realise is that Cyprus is also home to one of the oldest wine-making traditions in the world.

In fact, wine has been produced on the island for thousands of years, with vineyards stretching across the beautiful Troodos Mountains and beyond. The combination of sunshine, altitude and rich soils creates ideal conditions for producing some truly outstanding wines.

One of Cyprus’s most famous exports is Commandaria, often described as the world’s oldest named wine still in production today. Rich, sweet and full of history, it’s a must-try for any wine enthusiast.

The great news is that a visit to Cyprus doesn’t have to be limited to beaches and resorts.

😁 On Wednesday evening I attended a fantastic travel industry event hosted by the wonderful team at Travel Bulletin, at Hampton Court Palace Golf Club.

The theme was the Mediterranean Showcase, bringing together a collection of travel suppliers who shared the latest news, product updates and destination insights to help travel agents like me better serve our clients.

The award was in recognition of my support for the airline and the positive social media content I create highlighting the excellent service they provide.

As an independent travel agent, that meant a great deal to me.

Recognition is never expected, but it is always appreciated. It reinforced something I strongly believe in: positivity matters. Taking the time to support businesses, celebrate good service and share positive experiences really can make a difference.

On Wednesday evening I had the opportunity to meet up with a lovely lady, Meeta Tailor VisitCyprus, who works for the Cyprus Deputy Ministry of Tourism.

I was attending the Mediterranean Showcase, run by my highly respected colleagues at Travel Bulletin, an event that brought together eight great suppliers to talk to a room full of professional travel agents, myself included, at Hampton Court Palace Golf Club.

I’ve met Meeta on several occasions, and she is truly passionate about everything Cyprus 🇨🇾. She’s my fountain of all knowledge for the country, including hotels, things to do etc.

Events like these are not easy to organise and run, which is why I always appreciate the efforts to which the exhibitors and organisers go to.

I am very enthusiastic about Cyprus and what it has to offer, so if it’s on your radar for 2026 and 2027, then please do get in touch so I can help create a bespoke experience for you and your party.

Now, here’s a great tip from Meeta.

Cyprus is not just for summer, it’s an all year round destination that is often better visited in the off peak seasons to avoid the heat of the summer, especially when touring.

Your holidays to Amsterdam are about to get more expensive, as the Netherlands Government announces plan for 20% tourist tax

Amsterdam is planning to increase its tourist tax from 12.5% to 20%, making it by far the highest in Europe.

The city’s new coalition Government confirmed the agreement for the increase in a document published this week.

The overnight tax will rise to 16% of the accommodation price next year, then it will increase a further one percentage point every year until it hits 20%.

The two new ruling parties, PRO Amsterdam and D66, also announced they were abandoning plans by the previous Government to ban tourists from visiting coffee shops, which are known to sell ma*****na in various forms.

Sri Lanka waives entry fee for foreign tourists, including Brits

Sri Lanka is waiving the US$50 ETA (Electronic Travel Authorisation) fee to encourage more overseas visitors.

The Foreign Office updated its travel advice on Tuesday, stating that the ETA has been free since Monday (25 May).

A travel expert Experience said the fee waiver ‘sends a very strong signal that Sri Lanka is welcoming visitors’.

“This is the right move at exactly the right moment,” he added. “Demand softened during the Middle East airspace disruption, through no fault of Sri Lanka’s, and the country needs every reason for people to put it back on the shortlist.

“Free ETAs alongside direct BA flights from October is a real prompt for travellers to discover, or rediscover, this remarkable island.”

British Airways will launch a three-times-a-week winter service to Colombo in Sri Lanka from London Gatwick on 23 October.

British Airways has launched a new sumner seasonal service between London Heathrow and Tivat in Montenegro 🇲🇪, with the first flight having arrived earlier this week.

The route connects London with the Adriatic coast and supports travel and tourism links between the UK and Montenegro.
