There’s nothing quite like hearing from a happy client. 🌍✈️

One of the most rewarding parts of my travel business is receiving feedback from people after they return home. It’s especially satisfying when they visit somewhere they might never have considered before.

Recently, one of my regular clients took my recommendation to spend a week in Albania 🇦🇱 on his very first visit to the country.

As he has travelled extensively around Europe, I suggested combining two very different experiences: four nights in the vibrant capital, Tirana, followed by three nights in the coastal city of Durrës.

With a convenient non-stop flight from Heathrow, I arranged everything for him, including private airport transfers at the start and end of his holiday, plus all the accommodation. All he had to do was relax and enjoy the experience.

These were his thoughts after his first full day in Tirana:

“The main square, Skanderbeg Square, is immense and a single photo would not do it justice. Very enjoyable and a very hot day.

The mosque is beautifully decorated and the only one in Tirana to survive the Hoxha regime.

I did visit the Pyramid, but unfortunately I wasn’t able to use the lift. Despite the security guard seeing that I have a visual impairment and use a cane, he refused access, so I couldn’t get to the top.

Tirana is well worth a weekend city break – at least!”

I thought that was a wonderfully balanced review. It highlights the beauty, history and atmosphere of Tirana, while also honestly pointing out an accessibility issue that I hope will be addressed in the future.

You may have noticed that I’m posting fewer “holiday deals” than I used to.

A few people have even asked if I’ve stopped being a travel agent!

The answer is a very definite no.

In fact, travel is as much my passion today as it has been for more than 40 years.

The reason for the change is that the travel industry has evolved. New advertising rules mean that travel agents need to be much more careful about how holiday offers are promoted online, and social media itself has changed too.

Rather than filling my page with price-led deals, I’d much rather show you why you should trust me to plan your holiday.

That’s why you’ll see more posts about:

🏨 Hotels that genuinely stand out.
🚢 Cruise lines and ships that I know and recommend.
🌍 Interesting enquiries and itineraries I’m working on.

I firmly believe people buy from people they know, like and trust. When you’re planning something as important as your holiday, expertise, experience and personal service matter far more than simply finding the cheapest headline price.

✈️ More choice for travellers heading to the UAE… and far beyond!

Air Arabia has clearly struck a chord with travellers, as it’s already increasing its new London Gatwick to Sharjah service.

Having only launched the route on 4th July 2026, the airline will increase from two daily flights to three daily flights from 25th October 2026. That’s a significant vote of confidence in the demand for travel between the UK and the UAE.

Whilst Dubai is often the destination that springs to mind, Sharjah is well worth considering.

Located just a short distance from Dubai, it can be:
✅ A more affordable gateway to the UAE
✅ A destination in its own right
✅ An excellent connecting hub to destinations including Saudi Arabia, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Malaysia.

One thing to be aware of is that Sharjah is a dry emirate, meaning alcohol is neither served nor permitted. For many travellers that won’t matter at all, and it can represent excellent value for money compared with some neighbouring emirates.

Whether you’re looking for a relaxing UAE holiday, a city break, or an onward journey across Air Arabia’s growing network, I’d be delighted to help you find the right option.

My recent visit onboard the Fred. Olsen Cruise Line, Balmoral, came with the ubiquitous photo prior to boarding.

Having now experienced this ship, albeit briefly, she’s certainly a candidate who prefer a smaller number of passengers.

She’s an older ship, but still offers comfort and a good onboard experience.

You need to remember that you should take an adapter plug with you, as my cabin only had American plug sockets.

One of the real benefits of being an independent travel agent is having the opportunity to spend time with the people behind the brands that I recommend.

Last week, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Anna Borrer AmaWaterways, Business Development Manager at AmaWaterways, for a fascinating conversation about river cruising.

🏨 Hotel Review: Ibis London Thurrock M25

As a travel agent, I never recommend anywhere I wouldn’t be happy to use myself.

Last week I stayed at the Ibis London Thurrock M25 on my way to Tilbury, and as I regularly offer this hotel to my clients, I thought I’d share my own experience.

After what can only be described as a nightmare journey from my home near Heathrow - almost 10 hours thanks to the M25 closure following an accident, diesel spillage and emergency resurfacing - arriving at the hotel genuinely felt like reaching a little oasis.

Although the hotel is located on an industrial estate in Thurrock, don’t let that put you off. It has plenty of complimentary onsite parking (just remember to register your vehicle at reception), and once inside you’ll find a welcoming, comfortable hotel that’s ideal for an overnight stay or as a base for exploring the area.

Despite the reception being busy with other stranded travellers, the welcome was warm, friendly and efficient. Every guest was made to feel valued, which really stood out after such a stressful day.

My room was spotless, comfortable and excellent value for money. The air conditioning was outstanding (very welcome in the 34°C heat), the Wi-Fi was fast and reliable, the shower was excellent, and the bed was so comfortable that I slept like a baby… admittedly, a rather large one! 😄

The bar and restaurant serve a good range of reasonably priced meals and drinks, and breakfast is available with both continental and full cooked options.

My verdict? ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆

If you’re looking for a clean, comfortable and affordable hotel close to Tilbury, Lakeside, the M25 or the surrounding area, I’d happily recommend it.

If you’re travelling for business, heading off on a cruise, visiting family or simply need an overnight stop, I’d be delighted to arrange your stay.
