I got paid to go on a pub crawl last week. No, seriously. 🍻✨

​From a hostel pub crawl to a luxury cruise ship… standard 48 hours in the life of travel! 🤪👇

​When I headed to Edinburgh, I decided to step completely out of my comfort zone and book my first solo hostel stay at the Kick Ass Hostel. Being a home-comforts person, I really didn't know what to expect. You hear stories, right?! 🫣

​But honestly? It was brilliant — amazing vibe, great people, and 10/10 would do it again!

​I bumped into a fellow traveler friend, and we hit the town on an organised pub crawl. We drank, we laughed, we saw the best of Edinburgh's nightlife… And here is the little travel industry plot twist: we actually earn a commission on things like pub crawls. 🤯

​Who knew you could get a kickback for having a laugh in a bar?! 🤫

​While we were out laughing, exploring new bars, and making friends from across the globe, it was technically "networking" that paid me back.

​Fast forward to the next morning, and I was stepping on board the majestic Majestic Princess cruise ship for a luxury inspection and a 3-course meal that looked like literal art. 🚢✨

​From budget backpacking to 5-star cruise liners, I have access to book (and earn from) it all.

More Than Just a Weekend Away ✨

​Last weekend, I could have been celebrating my birthday the usual way, but instead, I decided I wanted to do something for someone else. I headed to Leeds to volunteer as a sighted guide at the TPT Sight Loss Councils conference and annual meeting.

​Wow. It was better than I ever could have imagined.
​Councils from all over the country came together to celebrate the massive impact they are making for the blind and partially sighted community. These incredible individuals are working tirelessly to break down barriers—from brilliant, small local changes to massive, history-making advocacy that reaches the House of Lords to change actual laws.

​I was there to help, but honestly? I came away with so much more than I gave. I've come home with a heart full of inspiration and so many amazing stories to share with my kids.

​Inspiration, Laughter, and Four-Legged Heroes 🐾
​It was a weekend of pure joy. These people don’t let vision loss define or limit their lives for a single second. As a travel agent, I was absolutely blown away to find out that some of these individuals have actually travelled more than I have! Absolutely nothing stops them.
​I laughed until I cried, shared unforgettable stories, and felt so deeply humbled by everyone I met.

​A few personal highlights from the weekend:

​The Awards Ceremony: I was honored to attend the gala evening and see these well-deserved changemakers receive tokens of celebration for their hard work.

Hilton Leeds City : A beautiful stay that made the weekend feel even more special. Great location, fabulous decor, facilities and staff, the room was just what I needed to catch up on some emails before getting ready for the evening gala.

​The Guide Dogs: Oh, the four-legged friends! We fell completely in love with them. They are so incredibly clever and make a monumental difference to so many lives.

​A Beautiful Full-Circle Moment 🥂
​None of this would have happened without the gorgeous Rachel Wilkinson. We met in Madagascar last year as fellow travel agents, realised we share the exact same level of "good crazy," and have been friends ever since! She offered me this opportunity, and I grabbed it with both hands.

​We wrapped up the perfect weekend the only way we knew how: sharing a gorgeous Italian meal at Ginos in the sunshine, raising a glass of wine, and enjoying some quality time together before heading off in oppostie directions.

​My Takeaway For You 🫶
​If you ever get the opportunity to step outside your comfort zone and volunteer for something like this, do it. Take the chance with both hands. You might think you're just giving up a bit of your time, but you will come back with a full heart, a fresh perspective, and a reminder that the world is meant to be explored—no matter what.

​It was a birthday weekend I will truly never forget. 💖

Two weeks ago, we headed off to Butlins for the British Dance and Theatre Association annual awards. It’s an annual tradition and always one of the most jam-packed weekends of the year.
​Anyone who has driven to Skegness knows it’s not exactly the most relaxing journey! So this time, we did things differently—we took the train. And wow, game changer. No traffic stress, just pure chill time with my sister and the kids, playing games, laughing, and watching the scenery change. 🚂🎲

​We spent the weekend watching the kids shine in professional choreography classes, celebrating amazing dance schools, hitting the waterslides, and soaking up the gorgeous weather.
​But the absolute highlight? My daughter getting a massive compliment from her favourite choreographer. Her face completely lit up. That right there is why we travel—to step outside our comfort zones, try new things, and build that unstoppable confidence.
​A massive shout-out and big thank you to Hannah Lucy Stage School for always giving our kids such amazing opportunities! We had the most fantastic time with the school. 👯‍♀️🤍

​As a travel lover, this weekend reminded me that the way we travel matters just as much as where we go. Travel doesn’t always mean a passport and a flight. Sometimes it’s a UK breakaway that reminds us what matters most: time together, fresh perspectives, and watching our little ones strive for big things. 🩰🇬🇧

🎂 Birthdays are for beaches and boat trips...
​It’s not the Bahamas, or even the Balearics, but it was something that has been on my bucket list for a very long time. So, with zero plans for my birthday, off I went!
​If you’ve lived in Northumberland your whole life like me, you’d think I’d have checked every local wonder off my list by now. But there was a island shaped hole in my little travel diary: The Farne Islands.

Back in Year 4, I was supposed to go during a school trip to Beale. It fell through, and I was gutted!!. Somehow, I just never got the time to get it reorganised.

​Until today.

​I took myself up to Seahouses, boarded Serenity Farne Island Boat Tours, and finally set sail into the North Sea.

​⛵ The skipper caught me totally off guard, standing watch out, smiling away as we sailed out across the North Sea (I nearly jumped over board when he starting talking to me, I had no idea anyone was near me 😂 poor bloke got as much of a fright as me I think 🙈)

Spontaneity Level 10!
​No Plans, Best Plans: Sometimes stepping outside your daily bubble and being completely spontaneous sparks the best energy.

​Locals Travel Too: You don’t always have to fly across the world to find incredible travel experiences—sometimes they are right on your doorstep.

​Bucket List: Checked: 9-year-old me is officially throwing a celebration right now.

​It’s funny how we spend so much time helping others travel smarter and explore the world, that we sometimes forget to play tourist in our own beautiful backyard. Today was the perfect reminder to just say 'yes' to the adventure.

Looking back on Gran Canaria 2025—and the things I wish I knew! ✈️☀️

​They say hindsight is 20/20, and looking back at my birthday trip to Puerto Rico, Gran Canaria, I’ve realised two things: I had the best time, but I definitely learned some lessons for what we missed to warrant another visit!

​My Top 3 Highlights:
​Adrenaline on the water: We took a standard boat trip and ramped it up with some fast-paced jet skiing—it was the absolute highlight of the week. Nothing beats that feeling!
​Finding the charm: Puerto de Mogán is an absolute must-visit. It’s so quaint and beautiful—definitely the "Instagram-worthy" spot of the island.

​The "View from the Top": Staying at Colina Mar was a genius move. Perched on the hill, we had a prime, panoramic view of the whole resort from our balcony. Watching the sun go down from there was unbeatable; everyone knows how much I love a sunset!

​The "Real Talk" (Things to know before you go!):
​Those hills are no joke: Puerto Rico is steep. We walked down to the beach once… needless to say, we took a taxi back up! 😅

​Travel Smarter, Not Harder: We skipped the pre-booked transfer and jumped on the local bus. A quick taxi from the bus stop to our hotel saved us 45 euro. That’s an extra dinner out!

The resort was clean, the prices were fair for the current climate, there’s a good variety of shops and bars, and we met some legends along the way. Shout out to Bernie Byrne's Irish Pub for the best hospitality— "more vodka" ? 🫣

​The "Wish I Knew" monents when I got back, I’ve discovered these hidden gems that are officially on my bucket list for the next island visit:

​Red Canyon: A breathtaking, Mars-like landscape where you can hike through dramatic, rugged rock formations.
​Rainforest Walks: A lush, green escape into the island’s interior that feels a world away from the sunny coastline.
​Cave Kayaking: An incredible way to explore the rugged coastline and hidden sea caves up close from the water.

​Travel is all about learning, exploring, and—sometimes—realising you need a taxi to get back to your hotel! 😉
