What is Rockman Swimrun?

Is it?

Pre race coffee and chat with friends and fellow competitors, doomscrolling the last few minutes, or knitting whilst you endulge your partner's passion for Swim Run?

Is it?

Friendly volunteers who ensure the winning arch is the perfect pressure, whose happy banter will spur on the competitors during a long day on the course.

Or is it?

F*ck this is steep and it is only the first up hill section of the day 🤣

emerges from the mist.

Always a highlight for me to catch up with Diego each year. I am afraid I rely too much on his English as my Spanish is rubbish but though we approach our photography very differently it is a creative language we share.

Having enjoyed the teaser released yesterday I am looking forward to the full video of the day and some of his images.

My 3rd Rockman Swimrun behind the lens was the "Colder and Harder" chapter of the evolving legend that is Rockman racing. This remarkable race is driven by three special people in Thor Hesselberg, Marcus Barton and Trista Mennen and held in the superb rugged countryside that is Lysefjorden.

So a remarkable trio of organisers, who are great company, remarkable landscape but perhaps the best are the remarkable competitors who take on this challenge. Registration on the Friday night gave me a chance to catch up with a few who I now recognise from the two previous races I have covered, whilst also creating some portraits in a congested hotel lobby.

As the stash was handed out to the competitors when they signed on for the race, the black and orange hoody caught the eye of a compeitor's son. A little large on the shoulders at the moment, but like I am finding with this race, I think he will grow in to it.

I will share a few images from the race tomorrow but this brutal race to compete in and also to photographer remains a captivating highlight of my calandar.

A second year supporting Highland Cross with their annual charity duathlon. 50 miles through some beautiful highland countryside. It is an event that has both a walkers classification and runners. This year was in to a tough headwind, but dry. The competitors pass me as they cross the highest point of the course and here are a few frames of big lens black and white moments.

Another Skye Events: Half Marathon, 10K & Triathlon Half Marathon tucked away in the memory bank, so a few black and white portraits, most with a big lense, and including 1 image from TJFrog Skye

The event wouldn't be the same without Susie from Radio Skye poviding her commentary, race sponsors Bakkafrost P/F and the Isle of Skye Pipe Band

All the images are from before the start as competitors, families and friends prepared for their fun run / 10Km or Half Marathon.

Fiona, the Race Director, provided the final intructions before the reces began.

Always fun to support Skye Events: Half Marathon, 10K & Triathlon with their annual Half Marathon, 10Km & Fun Run. It is truly an event for all and the rolling course just slows you down a little to enjoy the scenery a bit more 😉

Congratulations to the Army Senior Men who are the winners of the Team of the Year category for the 2024 Army Sports Awards.

The team will receive their award on Thursday 14th November at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.
