There are so many paths and routes to walk on the Island and there is something for everyone. Challenges for serious hikers and shorter routes for those with a slower pace.

This 5.5 km walk from Norton took us through green fields towards Freshwater. Picking up the coastal path, along the beach at Colwell Bay and returning back through the woods of Fort Victoria Country park.

A lovely scenic walk with beautiful changing landscape and we were lucky enough to witness a number of buzzards (not quite a wake) circling above. Unfortunately, only managed to capture two!

Some say "A stay on the Isle of Wight is not complete without a visit to The Needles" but this post has been pondered over for a number of days.

It is truly a beautiful and iconic destination, located in an area of outstanding natural beauty and worthy of a visit. 🌱🌊

With a significant amount of visitors during the tourist season alone, it's welcoming to see acknowledgement of their social and environmental responsibilities.

Hopefully, they will continue to take positive steps to protect this amazing and historically significant place and encourage all visitors to do the same. 🙏

Luckily, the sun did make an appearance on more than one occasion! Afternoons on the beach took us west to Colwell Bay and little further south west to Compton Bay, both different but which one was best?

Colwell Bay is the smaller Bay. There is a beach shop, refreshments and facilities aswell as a couple of eating establishments. When the tides out there's lots of space. The water was beautifully clear and the sunsets can be just stunning. Parking can be tricky at times. Great for watersports and there is paddle board hire.

Compton Bay is longer and wider with the iconic, rugged sandstone cliff backdrop. There are facilities but advisable to take a picnic as no shops, refreshments or restaurants. The water was not as clear but beach was less rocky. Parking slightly easier. Apparently great for surfing, although unconfirmed as none of us are surfers!

Which one is best... Well... that depends on what's important for you! 😊

Oh and both accept dogs! 🐕

The busy harbour town of Yarmouth includes some of the oldest architecture on the island. A stroll around the castle and a walk along the sponsored Grade II listed pier provide lovely views across the Solent.

There's an array of independent shops capturing the market. One, in particular, is worthy of a mention My Funky Bags offer a colourful collection of beautiful bags all made from recycled plastic bottles!

Harbour fries from The Wheatsheaf Inn or ice cream at the entrance to the pier (even vegan ice cream!). Looking for a morning coffee, an afternoon tea or a substantial meal; there are a number of places to stop and replenish.

Finish off with a harbour taxi ride and enjoy a beautiful sunset.

Staying on the northwest coast of the island. Abandoning the car (not literally!) and taking a 15-minute walk incorporating a small part of The Isle of Wight Coastal Path takes us into the quaint, historic harbour town that sits on the mouth of the River Yar and is aptly named 'Yarmouth'! 🙃

Staying in the UK for a holiday this summer. After the long trip to Scotland earlier in the year, we opted for somewhere a little closer to home, yet still with the excitement of travel.

A short ferry crossing with from Southampton to East Cowes for an Island break to the Isle of Wight.

Hoping the sun makes an appearance! 😎🤞🏻

Feeling on top of the world!

Benefiting from some recent sunny summer days in the UK. Decided to avoid the beach and head for the hills, hopeful for some breeze!

The third highest point in the South Downs National Park, South East England and the highest in East Sussex at 814 feet, 248 meters above sea level.

The journey to the top is beautiful and the panoramic views that await are just incredible. Worthy of any walk, cycle or just a moment of pause! 😍

There are numerous walking/hiking or cycling routes to choose from. We opted for a 7km Ditchling Beacon circular trail. It took about 2 hours at a leisurely pace. Rewarded with a vegan ice cream to finish! 👍🏻

A fleeting stop to the Sunshine Coast today and on a warm day with changeable weather including rainy downpours it was no surprise to arrive in Eastbourne with the sun shinning!!

Really is such a beautiful part of the South Coast, nestled between the historic 1066 Country and the entry point to the breathtakingly, impressive South Downs National Park.

Although the fleeting visit today gave no time for photos, luckily these were taken on a previous visit, when fortunately it too was sunny!! 😎

Our final stop was a visit to a historical site in the UK and one with a novel of the same name by the famous Scottish historical novelist Sir Walter Scott...

Kenilworth Castle in Warwickshire. With a 900-year history from medieval times through to the Tudor period. The ruins reveal much about the past and the recreation of the Elizabethan Garden is beautiful.

If the walls could talk, imagine the stories they could tell!

Stopping overnight in Stafford on our journey back from Scotland.

We stayed somewhere comfortable, affordable and convenient for the last place to visit before our journey ended...

We decided to visit...???

Note: This was not the view from our room!! 😉

Before we leave there is somewhere that deserves a mention...

Rothiemurchus. 82% of this place is a special area for conservation with one of the largest areas of ancient forest in Britain.

Take a walk around Loch an Eileen where you can see the island castle ruins and walk along 'Robbers way'.

There's many outdoor activities to enjoy with some friendly rangers too. A great example of people and nature working together. Please support them to care for this amazing place plus their farm shop and The Druie café are pretty good.

Leave no trace.
