- Battling between nervous energy and the boost of having your teammates by your side.
- Wondering how the next couple of days are going to go and if your kit that has been begged, borrowed and chosen is all going to survive the elements.

A scenario that many of us will have experienced when facing their first DofE expedition. Do you look back on those memories with a wry smile remembering anecdotes and lessons learnt along the way? A recent snapshot of some of our DofE instructors rocking the new kit!

Chuffed with our The Adventure Element-branded Montane t-shirts and tops freshly supplied for this summer.

We are all catching our breath throughout August after a busy couple of months of DofE expeditions, corporate challenge days, and charity events across the country. However our kit will be dusted off in time for an action-packed September!

As part of your DofE journey, you’ll be spending time outdoors, exploring and enjoying the natural world.

It’s your responsibility to help protect the beautiful landscapes, wildlife, and communities you encounter. Simple action such as closing gates behind you to keep animals safe, or sticking to marked paths to avoid damaging habitats make all the difference. In fact, there are many ways you can have a positive impact while out on expedition.

When you're out exploring, it's important to respect the environment. Here are a few key parts of the Countryside Code to keep in mind;
1. Leave gates as you find them
2. Leave no trace
3. Respect livestock
4. Stick to the pathways
5. Follow the signs

Learning navigation is a key part of your Duke of Edinburgh’s Award journey. It takes time and practice to build up your confidence with a map and compass but the more you do it, the better you’ll get. Practice makes perfect as the ole saying goes!

Working as a team is essential on expedition, therefore it’s important that everyone has a chance to lead and try out navigation for themselves.

Sometimes it can be tempting to leave the nav to the one entrusted with the map or the one who is most comfortable map-reading. However sharing the responsibility and letting each individual take their turn will help you all grow in skill and confidence.

One of the satisfying tasks that take place back at the store... Ben has been busy straightening tent pegs post-DofE expedition so they are all ready for their next adventure.

While participants take care while putting up their tent, a few bent pegs can happen along the way. Luckily, we have just the thing to get them back in shape.

Our very own founder Ben Keen is on his holidays but that doesn't mean resting up... that's not his style! Ben's holiday has begun by completing the Flandrien Challenge to earn his tile on the wall of fame at the Centre Ronde van Vlaanderen in Oudenaarde.

The stats? About 265 miles, 4800m ascent, and nearly 18 hours in the saddle! A shoutout to his solid efforts. Time for a well earnt beer in the land of beer and bikes.

Crossing the finish line is a moment you’ll never forget, whether you’re greeted by loved ones, buddies, or our cheering staff.

For some it can be a moment of reflection, pride and recognition of what you have achieved. You’ve worked hard, pushed yourself, and it all paid off!
