one of the reasons I love my job.
TestimonialKaren Doyle: Your Lancashire CelebrantBefore I joined BBG, I really had not heard of a Celebrant and I listened carefully to Karen's 60 seconds every week and slowly came to realise this might be something for us.Earlier in the year my partner & I had found out that we were expecting our first child. Neither of us are particularly religious and I started to reallise the importance of celebrating our new daughter's entrance into this world through a Naming Ceremony. My partner is from Slovakia and the obvious cultural differences did not deter Karen who was keen to ensure our daughter Sofia's Slovak Grandparents could enjoy the naming ceremony as much as everyone else.Karen takes time to meet you and your family making a visit to our home in Lancaster shortly after Sofia was born. It is important to Karen to make the ceremony personal to you, your family and situation and she asked a number of questions about you and your family history to make those little difference to your ceremony that make it so special. She wanted to include little things about all the important people to us and ultimately Sofia and gave us helpful suggestions and tips on how to make our ceremony perfect. We received a draft ceremony to check and amend as we saw fit and plenty of opportunity to add anything we might have forgotten at the first meeting.Being so soon after Sofia's birth and the added complication of translations, things probably did not go smoothly yet Karen was patient and understanding and we managed to get together everything we needed just in time.Even a last minute bout of illness in the family and to one of the people reading a verse or poem did not distract Karen as she remained calm, focused and professional at all time. Sofia's Slovak Grandparents cried when they first read the translated version of the ceremony and having read it several times myself, it can move you to joyful tears. We arrived at the ceremony to greet Karen all prepared with a bound copy of our ceremony and a beautiful candle with Winnie the Pooh (our chosen theme for Sofia'sbedroom). The ceremony was perfect with everyone saying how nice it was and the most important person in the room really enjoyed it as she filled her nappy half way through the ceremony.Thank you Karen. It was a special day for all of us and one which you helped to make special. A day we will not forget and one which we shall make sure Sofia learns about as she grows up. Just a few lines I penned this morning, hope you like them.

Hi, I’m Karen from Celebrant Lancashire.
I love what I do,
Working with people, just like you.
Lets celebrate your next milestone, in a bespoke way,
Your ceremony all about you and your special day.
Let me name your baby or write your vows,
Say a final good-bye, emotions arouse.
Would you like it traditional, or want a theme?
I don’t actually follow any strict regime.
I use words from the heart or maybe a few metaphors,
Its a ceremony that is written just for you and yours.
So whether your hatched, matched or dispatched
I guarantee my ceremonies will never be matched.
Karen Doyle

a question I get asked often is "what is a celebrant?" so please read this little poem that Gwyn Davies a lovely colleague of mine has penned, hopefully it will give a little insight and make you smile.
Celebrant, Celebrant, what is it you do?
I’m a little old fashioned, and haven’t a clue.
Celebrant, Celebrant, what is it you do?
Are you religious, or is that taboo?
Who is your target, where is your goal?
I’m a little confused, as to what is your role.
Are you religious, or the atheist sort,
I’m a bit in the dark and need to be taught.
Well let me enlighten, I’ll try and explain,
I’m there as a person to try ease the pain.
It isn’t about me or any belief,
I try help the loved ones to help with their grief.
There’s more than two options, to help people through,
So I’ll try and explain, what us Celebrant’s do.
We take an approach, with a personal touch,
For loved ones in need of the help for a crutch.
Some aren’t religious, but still want a prayer,
Or even a hymn, and we’re happy to share.
It just shouldn’t matter in our belief,
We’ll use an approach, that helps bring relief.
So each service it varies, and that is our aim,
Each service is special, and no two the same.
So as you can see, it’s not black or white,
We offer a service that we just try make right.
Right for the person, who’s life has passed on,
And try help those hurting, as they loved one as gone.
We tick all the boxes, some people say,
We try make it special, in our own unique way.
Times are a changing, changing so fast,
We must try move forward, not stuck in the past.
So, we are here when you need us, give us a try,
Just take a look, there’ll be one close by.

I feel blessed to have this wonderful job, had two more weddings booked for next year, performed a very romantic vow renewal at weekend and baby naming to deliver next month, as well as the enquiries from people who are ready to explore an alternative way of doing things xx

a lovely tribute from the family of Mr S Lewis

Karen, thank you for your time, dedication, and understanding. From a full and long life, you managed to cherry pick a handful of moments which successfully captured a man's true spirit. A fitting monument carved from carefully crafted words, your eulogy gave proper homage to an ordinary man with an extra-ordinary character and abilities.

Deepest Thanks,

Jayne and Family ###
