I came to Budapest expecting thermal baths, grand buildings and river side views from the Danube.

What I did not expect to find, tucked on a quiet corner of Elizabeth Square, was a tree devoted to Michael Jackson.

And yet, there it was.

It's easy to walk right past it at first it looks just like a tree beside the Kempinski Hotel Corvinus. But look closer and you will see laminated photographs pressed against its bark, handwritten notes tucked into its branches and candles and flowers scattered at its roots.

It's not an official monument. There's no plaque, no museum, no ticket booth. Just a tree that fans quietly turned into a memorial.

This exact spot is where devoted fans once gathered back in 1994 and 1996, hoping to catch a glimpse of him whilst staying at the Kempinski Hotel Corvinus.

Following his unexpected death in June 2009, grieving fans turned the tree into a memorial site and years on they continue to gather regularly at the tree for tributes on his birthday and the anniversary of his death, some dancing, some simply standing in silence.

One moment I was admiring Budapest's architecture and the next I was standing in front of a tree wrapped in tributes to Michael Jackson. No guidebook prepared me for that.

Maybe that's the real magic of travel, not the landmarks you plan for, but the ones you never see coming.

What’s the most unexpected thing you have ever come across whilst travelling ?

I would love to hear your stories.

Would you wait 30 minutes for an ice cream?

After seeing this… you might just do so.

This isn't just any gelato.

Every single ice cream is hand-crafted into a beautiful rose, petal by petal.

And the best part ?

It's not just made for Instagram.

The gelato is creamy, packed with flavour and you can even mix different flavours into one flower.

I've tried a lot of ice cream while travelling, but this is definitely one of the most unique experiences. You're basically eating a piece of edible art.

It's close by St. Stephen's Basilica, so if you're visiting Budapest, this is one stop you absolutely shouldn't skip.

"You don't strike me as someone who's into luxury..."

I hear this more often than you would think. 😂

People see Miss Luxury Travel and assume I'm all about designer handbags, five-star hotels, business class flights and expensive things.

The truth?

My definition of luxury is probably a little different.

Luxury travel, to me, has never been about showing off.

It's about creating the kind of experiences that make you feel truly alive.

✨ Time to slow down.

✨ Freedom to go wherever my heart takes me.

✨ Watching a sunrise with a cup of Yorkshire Tea in my hand and nowhere else to be.

✨ Swimming in the sea instead of scrolling my phone.

✨ Discovering new cultures, meeting incredible people and collecting stories instead of stuff.

✨ Breathing fresh mountain air, listening to the ocean and feeling content.

Don't get me wrong... I love a beautiful hotel, exceptional service and crisp white sheets as much as the next person.

They absolutely elevate the experience.

But the hotel is just one part of the journey.

The real luxury is having experiences that change you, moments that stay with you forever, and memories you'll be talking about long after the tan has faded.

Because luxury isn't just about where you stay...

It's about how you feel while you're there.

What's your definition of luxury travel ?

I'd love to know in the comments 👇🏼

Some experiences really stop you in your tracks and make you think deeply when travelling.

Seeing this memorial was one of those experiences for me and therefore I feel it deserves a post of its own ….

‘The Shoes On The Danube Bank’ erected in 2005 is a heartbreaking memorial to 3,500 civilians – including 800 Jews killed by fascists in Budapest during the Arrow Cross Terror in the Second World War 1944-45

Designed by Can Togay and Gyula Pauer this poignant sculpture, made up of 60 pairs of cast iron shoes on the banks of the Danube commemorates the slaying of 3,500 victims that were ordered to remove their clothes and shoes by fascists before being shot dead, their bodies falling into the river Danube.

The memorial represents the shoes of the victims left behind on the river bank.

Different styles and sizes can be seen, showing that nobody was safe – men, women nor children.

Today, candles are placed in the shoes, flowers are laid alongside them and a plaque reads:

“To the memory of the victims shot into the Danube by Arrow Cross militiamen in 1944–45.”

I never knew about this so I was initially in shock then sadness took over as I sat thinking about the fate of the people who were forced to take off their shoes and stand at the edge of the icy river, terrified and facing men with guns.

This memorial not only commemorates the slaying of 3,500 people killed by fascists, it challenges you to look at the bigger picture and think about the mass murder of individuals, unfortunately still happening today across the world.

My heart goes out to those people and the victims of war.

RIP

People fly from all over the world to see this building…

Situated on the banks of the river Danube is the Hungarian Parliament Building in Budapest. It's easily one of the most stunning buildings in Europe. Honestly, photos don't even come close.

It took nearly 20 years to build, was completed in 1904, has a massive 691 rooms, and its central dome stands almost 100 metres high. Everywhere you look there's so much incredible detail.

If you can, come back after dark. When it's lit up and reflected on the Danube, it genuinely looks like something out of a fairy tale.

If Budapest is on your travel bucket list, hit that follow button because I've got loads more hidden gems, travel tips, and incredible places coming next. You won't want to miss them 🇭🇺♥️🇭🇺

Budapest is one of my favourite city breaks. It’s a city with grand history, stunning architecture, welcoming people and incredible food.

No matter how many times I visit, I always find another reason to fall in love with it.

The Hungarian Parliament Building is undoubtedly one of the city's greatest landmarks.

Sitting proudly on the banks of the Danube, it's one of the largest and most beautiful parliament buildings in the world.

By day its intricate Gothic
architecture is breathtaking and by night, when it's illuminated, it's nothing short of magical.

Have you ever been to Budapest ?

If not, it deserves a spot on your travel bucket list.

I will post a picture of it lit up on an evening later. So follow along if you want to see that
