This photo was taken 25 years ago, almost to the day in fact.
It was the first time I’d gone away on my own and I’d also given myself the goal of learning something new - sailing. So, I set off on my travels out of my comfort zone on many counts!

For the first week I grappled with mastering the art of dinghy sailing, proudly achieving my Level 1 RYA National Sailing Certificate. The second week I moved on to learning Level 2, opting this time for a yacht.

One of the many great things about this holiday was the freedom to choose. I could’ve decided to simply relax on the beach for two weeks, or try my hand at one of many other activities on offer, or combine a bit of everything. There was no pressure to do anything and, because of the wonderful mixture of people it attracted, there was no shortage of company to reflect on the day’s happenings with either.

It was a truly memorable holiday from start to finish and, 25 years on, it still brings back so many fond memories – even if I haven’t managed to sail since!
