Clocks go back tonight ⏰🍂

As we gain an extra hour but lose a bit more daylight, this is often when the 'I really need something sunny to look forward to' feeling kicks in.

Throwback Tuesday to Brazil – and especially Rio de Janeiro – from my university recruitment days 🇧🇷

I was lucky enough to travel there regularly for work, visiting universities in São Paulo, Rio, Fortaleza, Recife and Porto Alegre, but always trying to squeeze in some proper sightseeing too.

In Rio, days often started or finished at the rooftop pool in Ipanema, looking out over the beach and the ocean. One of my favourite memories is the beach vendors: someone appearing out of nowhere with the sweetest fresh fruit, cut right in front of you, or that amazing “cheese on a stick” – a squeaky, halloumi‑style cheese, quickly grilled over a little portable flame and handed to you still sizzling 🤤

We did the classic Christ the Redeemer visit – complete with the slightly surreal escalator up to the top – and soaked up those incredible views over the lagoon, mountains and coastline. And then there were the legendary churrascarias: the green/red card on the table, endless skewers of perfectly cooked meat carved straight onto your plate, and a salad bar you quickly learn to treat with caution so you don’t fill up before the good stuff arrives!! (Meat sweats anyone?!)

Beyond the sights and the food, it’s the energy and warmth of the people that has really stayed with me: multicultural, vibrant, and always up for a chat. Brazil is one of those places that gets under your skin in the best possible way….though I am missing my favourite shopping trip to Havaianas in São Paulo 💖

A little trip to head office this week to celebrate my two year anniversary with 🥳

I still feel really grateful that I get to do this as my job; combining all the skills and experience from my previous careers, with my love of travel and using that to plan the trips of a lifetime for my fabulous clients 🫶

Throwback Tuesday to Maui, Hawaii – 2013 🌴🌊

This island honestly felt like several different worlds rolled into one: golden beaches and big resort hotels, lush rainforest, open ranch land and then those huge, dramatic cliffs that look like something straight out of a film set!

Highlights from the week with my friend Amy:

• Hiring a car and doing the Hāna audio guide tour – popping a CD into the car and having it talk us through every twist and turn along the road, waterfalls and viewpoints included.(that’s right kids, a CD!! 😱

• The best banana bread I have ever tasted (still not beaten, even now!).

• Hitting balls at the Wailea Golf Club driving range at sunset.

• Stumbling across a beach where enormous sea turtles were sleeping on the sand, looking like rocks until you got close (we kept a careful distance, but it was such a core memory) 🐢

• A traditional luau, exploring caves and getting a little taste of Hawaiian culture.

• And the big one: a helicopter flight over the island, swooping in and out of vast green cliffs and past huge waterfalls – it genuinely felt like flying through Jurassic Park. 🚁

Maui is one of those places where you can see so many different landscapes in just one week. I would go back in a heartbeat…..and it IS a lot closer and better value than a lot of people first think!
