Belize has been on my radar for a while: pristine rainforest, ancient Mayan temples and laid‑back paradise islands all in one trip.

What makes it especially exciting right now is a new Air Canada route from the UK via Montreal, which can get you to Belize in as little as around 12 hours, avoiding the usual overnight stopover.

Following on from my blog last week re travelling off the beaten track in Jamaica I'm delighted to see that Virgin currently offering Upper Class flights there for £1867 return and it's available in July during the school holidays, yes you read that right!

Even better, it is on an Airbus A330-900 which is the newest aircraft type in the fleet and with private suites.

Seats are available between June and September.
