Last October half-term I explored Iceland and it turned out to be the perfect time to go. The days were crisp and cool without being bitterly cold, the autumn colours were still clinging to the landscapes and the darker evenings gave us a real chance to hunt for the Northern Lights without the extremes of mid‑winter.
One of those true “pinch me” travel moments happened when we were relaxing in the Blue Lagoon. As we floated in the warm, steamy water, the most incredible Northern Lights began to dance across the sky, so spectacular that even the locals were coming out in awe. Watching that show with the children, hearing their gasps and seeing their faces light up, was one of those family memories we will never forget.
We mixed geothermal pools with dramatic waterfalls and lava fields, and plenty of cosy, candlelit café stops. It felt like the ideal balance of adventure and comfort, especially for a school‑holiday break when you do not want to be battling the harshest weather.
Since that trip I have discovered something I wish I had known then: Icelandic “micro‑tours” from Keflavík Airport. These are free, 30‑minute guided experiences in the departures hall, hosted by prominent Icelanders, covering themes like music, food and drink, or art and design. So if you find yourself with time to spare at the airport, you can actually turn it into a last little burst of Icelandic culture before you fly home.
If Iceland has been on your wish list, October half‑term really is a fantastic window: fewer crowds than summer, a magical atmosphere, and fabulous opportunities for those bucket‑list experiences.
If you would like to plan your own Iceland adventure for this October half‑term (or start looking ahead to next year), get in touch and I will put together a tailor‑made trip that is just right for you.

Fancy seeing something different in Mexico, or combining your next trip with California? Why not try the Pacific side rather than the Caribbean…

Set just north of Puerto Vallarta, Rosewood Mandarina in Nayarit is a heavenly slice of Mexico’s Pacific coast.
It is a gorgeous, laid‑back resort where you can truly switch off: think spacious suites, warm earthy tones, handcrafted local materials and stunning wooden ceilings. There are three beautiful pools (including a tranquil adults’ area), a fabulous spa, great dining with a mix of Mexican and Spanish flavours, plus activities from tennis to golf and even polo lessons.

It works perfectly as a stand‑alone sunshine escape, or I can help you pair it with a California itinerary for the ultimate West Coast & Mexico adventure.

If you would love something a little different for your next Mexican getaway, I can design a completely tailor‑made trip around you. Send me a message to start planning.

Some holidays become stories your children will tell for the rest of their lives.

This recent holiday I booked for a family of four who have just returned from a private boat adventure around the islands of Indonesia: waking up to empty bays, snorkelling straight from the deck, and coming face to face (at a safe distance) with Komodo dragons and graceful manta rays in the wild.

These are the kinds of journeys I love planning for families and they kindly sent me these two incredible videos. When children experience the world like this, they are not just “on holiday”:
they are learning to be curious, confident and respectful of nature and different cultures. Watching them spot their first ray in clear blue water or quietly observe a Komodo dragon in its natural habitat is pure magic.

Every trip I design is completely tailored: for this one the right boat, skipper and crew, gentle days on the water balanced with guided wildlife experiences that put animal welfare first, and plenty of time to swim, play and simply be together with no crowds and no schedules to chase.

If you’d love your children to grow up with adventures like this let me know!

As I navigate (no pun intended!) work and cruising I'm delighted to say I have hit the sales target to retain gold status at Travel Counsellors literally in the middle of the Mediterranean! 😂 It's been a rocky road this year in travel but nothing I've not dealt with before and as ever I am nothing but grateful for all my faithful clients, all the referrals and the help of my lovely colleagues, couldn't have done it without every single one of you 🥰
