Belize has been on my radar for a while: pristine rainforest, ancient Mayan temples and laid‑back paradise islands all in one trip.
What makes it especially exciting right now is a new Air Canada route from the UK via Montreal, which can get you to Belize in as little as around 12 hours, avoiding the usual overnight stopover.
Once you are there, it is all about small, characterful places to stay. Belize is roughly the size of Wales and packed with gorgeous boutique hotels, including two luxury eco‑retreats owned by Francis Ford Coppola that are very popular with A‑list guests:
• Blancaneaux Lodge sits beside a river in the rainforest, about an hour’s drive from Caracol, a Mayan site crowned by a 9th‑century pyramid that is still Belize’s tallest building.
• Turtle Inn is a chic beachfront hideaway, perfect for boat trips out to wild little islands and Belize’s vast barrier reef.
I work with Journey Latin America as one of my trusted specialist partners, so I can book their Belize itineraries for you, including this kind of trip with flights and a mix of jungle and beach stays.
