240cm of snowpack in L**h for the opening weekend of the Arlberg. The best opening in so many years.

With more than half a metre of snow falling across the Arlberg and frigid, piercing blue skies today, this was as good as it gets for opening weekends anywhere.

The best opening day in Axamer Lizum, Innsbruck in very many years. Waist deep in places If you knew where to look it was line after line, after line. Strange winter - it was all all autumn until November and then pow. Cold all over the forecast. Special times.

November on the grand canal - there’s never a bad time to be in Venice. For all the talk of unsustainable tourism, yet can arrive from Munich or Zurich by direct train, just meters from a canal, the city has banished cruise liners to distant quays and the city is full or artisans, selling their crafts. It’s not even so busy out of the peak months. Venice is unique, magical and the host of incredible events.
