Over 100 years ago, Nickie’s great-grandmother Dorothy skied the slopes of Adelboden on 230cm wooden skis. It was 1912 - long woollen skirt, blouse, not a chairlift in sight - and she certainly wasn’t about to stay inside while the men had all the fun.
Four generations on, that spirit runs through everything Mabey Ski does. Granny Penny channelled it into the Penny Mabey Fund, supporting young female skiers to pursue the sport they loved. Auntie Isy took it onto the racecourse as the first woman selected for the British Universities Ski Club Competition.
And today, it shows up in the women who make Mabey Ski what it is - Nickie, who founded Mabey Ski on that same family spirit; Rosie, who has led our adventures from the front; Katy, who designs the experiences our guests dream about; Rosebud, who makes sure every guest feels looked after from start to finish; Emma, who makes people fall in love with a destination before they’ve even packed their bags; and Sam, who keeps the whole show running.
Year on year, we’re seeing more and more women choosing to ski with us - exploring further, pushing harder, and inspiring everyone around them. Long may that continue.
We’re also kicking off our Women’s Ski Touring week in Iceland next week - we can’t think of a better way to celebrate. Follow along on our socials…
Happy International Women’s Day from all of us. 🫶
