January 6th marks the end of the festive season, but don’t worry... there's still a bit of magic left!

In many English-speaking countries, this day is known as Epiphany, and while decorations must come down (unless you're ready to risk a year of bad luck 😬), there's more to it than just tidying up…

In parts of the UK, Twelfth Night was once a time for cakes hiding a bean or pea: whoever found it became "King" or "Queen" for the night! 🍰

In Ireland, Women's Little Christmas (Nollaig na mBan) is still celebrated in some areas. While men take care of the house and the food, ladies go shopping...

🌍 Traditions may vary, but they all remind us that to truly learn a language, you need to experience the culture, people, and little rituals that come with it.

Spotlight On Val, Our Business Development Manager

This month, we're kicking things off with Val

📍 Location: London, UK
🗣️ Languages: Val is perfectly bilingual, speaking both English and Italian fluently, and she also has a good understanding of Spanish.
🎭 What She Loves: When she's not busy building partnerships, you can find Val enjoying the magic of the theatre and musicals in the West End, or simply relaxing while listening to her favorite music.
⛈️ Pet Peeve: She absolutely hates rain... which, as she'll tell you, is a bit of an occupational hazard when you live in London!

Thanksgiving might seem all about turkey and pie, but there are some surprising facts behind this holiday!

No turkey at the beginning! The first Thanksgiving in 1621 likely featured deer, seafood, and corn. What natives had at that time, practically. Turkey was a later tradition! (yeah, poor turkey)

The first Thanksgiving lasted 3 days.
Can you imagine a three-day feast with your relatives? That's a lot of food... and small talk!

It took one determined woman to make it official. Sarah Josepha Hale, the author of “Mary Had a Little Lamb,” campaigned for 17 years before Thanksgiving became a national holiday in 1863 thanks to Abraham Lincoln who declared this a national holiday (it is always on a Thursday)

Learning about English-speaking cultures through their holidays helps us understand the language better—and makes learning a whole lot tastier!
