Today is clipping a multitude of different sized and rather shaggy Taxus balls into a wave/organic form. You have to carefully work out what growth to keep to join the plants together, and what to remove. It takes time and a considered approach, and constant standing back and checking. We also lifted the skirt (!) of the Olea to expose more of the trunk and give a little space around and separation from the Taxus. It is likely that in future rather than have a solid wall of Trachleospermum behind, we’ll clip into that to create natural gaps so that the wall can be seen through so less of a heavy mass. There is a huge difference between maintaining a garden and doing what is necessary to keep it ticking over, and looking forward, thinking creatively and working out how the garden can be significantly improved going forward, which is what we are about.
