The aim of the Ruzzies is to reward children for developmental steps that might otherwise be overlooked. Today’s Ruzzie is a perfect example of this. Gilda the Giraffe is the Champion of Love. Gilda was a very lonely giraffe until Lucy the Ladybird came crashing into her life and showed her that even the smallest of bugs and the tallest of animals could be the very best of friends. Now Gilda travels the world championing the importance of love. Is Gilda the Giraffe your child’s champion?

Slight adjustments will be made to some of the sound and lighting effects used during the show and there will also be designated quiet areas in the theatre with trained staff on standby. The internet has become a huge part of all of our lives but it is increasingly important to take steps to ensure you and your family are surfing safely. With many children now having access to the web via home PCs, games consoles and mobile phones it can be difficult for parents to monitor their access. Today is Safer Internet Day promoting understanding and awareness of online safety issues. For free help and advice, including how to install parental controls and support your children’s safety online, visit the UK Safer Internet Centre’s website.

The theme for Safer Internet Day 2013 is Online Rights and Responsibilities with the slogan “Connect with Respect”. Safer Internet Day 2013 will take place on 5th February, and this will be the tenth anniversary of the event.

Andre Cassagnes the inventor of the Etch A Sketch has passed away at the age of eighty-six. Mr. Cassagnes came up with the idea behind the Etch A Sketch in the 1950’s and more than 100 million copies of the toy have since been sold. The familiar red case of the Etch A Sketch reminds many of us of our childhoods and the toy has experienced a recent resurge in popularity after appearing in the Toy Story films.

If your child is a budding inventor, why not inspire and encourage them with a letter from a Ruzzie? To find out more visit us at www.ruzzies.co.uk.

This week is National Storytelling Week. Now in its 13th year, the event aims to raise awareness of the world’s oldest art form. Storytelling is a great way to share knowledge and experience, fire the imagination and bridge the generational divide. To celebrate, why not share a book with your child this weekend?

If your child has struggled to overcome difficulties with reading you can reward their hard work with a letter from a Ruzzie. To find out more visit us at www.ruzzies.co.uk.

Here at Ruzzies we love to inspire children, but what we really love is children that inspire us. Conner and Cayden Long from Tennessee are an amazing duo. Since June 2011 the brothers have competed in 14 races together, including triathlons. What makes their story truly inspirational is that Cayden has Hypertonic Cerebral Palsy. To find out more about Conner and Cayden, and their very special relationship, watch the video below.

We hope you all have your bird feeders at the ready because this weekend is The RSPB’s Big Garden Birdwatch! Taking part in this event is simple and great fun for the kids. To get involved, just spend one hour over the course of the weekend watching the feathered visitors to your garden or local park. Note down the most number of each species of bird you see at any one time – there’s a useful sheet you can print off with pictures and tick boxes to help you with this – and then submit your results via the RSPB website. The Big Garden Birdwatch has been running since 1979 and helps the RSPB keep track of the changing numbers of birds in the UK. To find out more, follow the link below!

The RSPB is the UK charity working to secure a healthy environment for birds and all wildlife, helping to create a better world for everyone. We depend on the goodwill and financial support of people like you.

Today is the anniversary of the birth of children’s writer AA Milne and to mark the occasion it is also Winnie The Pooh Day. We think it is far too cold to go outside, so perhaps we should all take a leaf out of Pooh’s book and celebrate by staying inside with some delicious honey!

Many parts of the UK are experiencing some very wintery weather this week. While we are all bundled up in our hats, coats and scarves, we should spare a thought for the birds and other wildlife in our gardens. Getting children involved with feeding wild birds can be a great way to help them learn about nature. You can even have a little competition at home to see who can spot the biggest, the smallest or the most unusual bird!
