A Mandatory Digital Declaration for Foreign Passport Holders, NRIs / Indian Citizens / OCI Cardholders Exempt
The Government of India has announced a significant procedural change for international arrivals. Effective October 1, 2025, foreign nationals entering India will be required to complete a mandatory e-Arrival Card prior to travel. This will replace the traditional paper-based disembarkation form that has been in use for several decades. This initiative, launched by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), aims to streamline the immigration process, reduce congestion at airports, and align with global best practices.

The e-Arrival Card is a digitised disembarkation form designed to collect key personal, travel, and contact information from incoming foreign travelers. Once submitted online, this information will be made available to immigration authorities at the port of entry, thereby replacing the need for a physical form filled out upon arrival. This transition follows similar models adopted by countries such as Thailand, Indonesia, and Singapore and is part of India’s broader efforts to modernise immigration systems.

The e-Arrival Card must be completed by all foreign nationals, including those travelling on e-Visas, sticker visas, business and employment, tourism, study, medical, or conference visas. Indian citizens / OCI cardholders who travel to India using a foreign passport are exempt to submit the e-Arrival Card. Indian citizens living outside India and travelling on Indian passports are not required to complete it. While OCI cardholders enjoy visa-free entry, they continue to be treated as foreign nationals under Indian immigration laws but are exempt from this procedural requirement.

The official portal for submission is available at https://indianvisaonline.gov.in/earrival. Starting October 1, 2025, the submission of the e-Arrival Card will become a mandatory pre-travel compliance step for all eligible travelers.

To complete the process, travelers must visit the portal, fill in their personal, passport, travel, and contact information, and submit the form within 72 hours prior to the scheduled arrival date. Upon submission, a confirmation receipt is generated, which should be retained in digital or printed format and may be requested by immigration officers during entry.

The form requires the traveler’s full name (as per passport), nationality, passport number, flight number, date of arrival, purpose of visit (such as tourism, business, study, employment, medical, AYUSH, or conference), countries visited in the past six days, address in India, email ID, phone number, and emergency contact details. There is no requirement to upload documents. The entire process is data-entry based.

This development is expected to significantly reduce wait times at immigration counters, particularly at high-traffic international airports such as those in Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad. For foreign passport holders, timely submission of the e-Arrival Card is essential to avoid any disruption or delays during entry.

From a policy perspective, the introduction of the e-Arrival Card is part of India’s broader push to digitise border control systems, enhance operational efficiency, and align immigration practices with international standards.

In summary, from October 1, 2025, all foreign nationals entering India will be required to submit the e-Arrival Card online prior to travel. The form must be submitted within 72 hours before arrival and replaces the paper-based disembarkation card previously filled out on the flight. Indian citizens / OCI are exempt. The official portal is https://indianvisaonline.gov.in/earrival.

We were just discussing this whilst I was on my India trip. I dont think Travel is something that can be left on AI. In 2012 when I was thinking of starting my own business, a few people pointed out that Online platforms are available and your business would never work and I used to say that I know I will lose some clients to Online companies, but, they will not be able to take away my real business as I have that human touch to every itinerary. And today after 11 years I have not looked back. Yes I have lost some clients to online due to prices or may be a small mistake I may have made, but most of my clients are looking for best service, they are looking for that one responsible person who they can talk to if any problems arise unlike these online companies.

On this trip I had an American friend explaining me how he finds ChatGPT so useful, and my answer was same, it does not have that human touch. Even with AI advances, they are not safe and they are not 100 percent. They will sell you want they want whilst we are here to fullfil your needs. No AI and no Internet can match the service we as an independent travel agents can provide.

Warning over data quality and energy use from tools such as ChatGPT

Emirates Digital Boarding passes

Taking a step forward in its drive to offer customers the convenience and assurance of digitally enabled travel journeys, Emirates will require most passengers departing Dubai to use a mobile boarding pass instead of a printed paper version, from 15 May onwards.

Passengers checking in at Terminal 3 will receive their mobile boarding pass via email or SMS. Passengers who check in online can load their boarding pass into their Apple Wallet or Google Wallet, or retrieve their boarding pass on the user-friendly Emirates App. The checked-in baggage receipt is also emailed directly to passengers or available in the Emirates App.

This initiative will significantly reduce paper waste while simultaneously offering a convenient and speedy digitised check in experience for passengers departing Dubai. It reduces the risk of lost or misplaced boarding passes, giving passengers peace of mind when travelling.

The mobile boarding pass can be used throughout the travel journey – in Dubai Duty Free, at security and for boarding, simply by showing the boarding pass on the phone. Emirates agents and airport staff will simply scan the QR code on the mobile boarding pass as passengers move through the airport and onto the aircraft.

Some passengers may still require a physical boarding pass to be printed – for instance when travelling with infants, unaccompanied minors, passengers requiring special assistance, passengers with onwards flights on other airlines, and all passengers travelling on flights to the US.

The option to print a boarding pass is available by request to Emirates agents at check-in counters, if passengers do not have a mobile device, or if they are unable to access the information on their devices for reasons such as: running out of battery power, a system breakdown or glitch, message delivery delay, or inability to access WIFI, network or a data package.

Smooth biometric journeys in Dubai

Registered passengers can now enjoy a seamless travel experience at Dubai International Airport, where they will be able to use the biometric machines or smart gates to go through various airport stations.

GCC nationals or visitors eligible for visa on arrival can pass through the Smart Gates with a biometric passport.
