Sometimes the smallest discoveries become the biggest memories. ❤️

During our stop in Passau on my Viva river cruise, a short walk uphill led us to the most beautiful church square and the magnificent St. Stephen’s Cathedral. The stunning architecture and breathtaking frescoes were one of those sights that make you stop and simply take it all in.

We then wandered through Passau’s charming narrow streets, enjoying the welcome shade from the crazy hot spring sun before emerging into the small bustling market square. Known as the City of Three Rivers, Passau sits where the Danube, Inn and Ilz rivers meet, and its rich history and character can be felt around every corner.

But if I’m honest, it wasn’t the cathedral that became my favourite memory of the day

It was stepping into a traditional cuckoo clock workshop.

The intricate craftsmanship, carving, the moving figures, the attention to detail every clock felt was a miniature work of art. Ofcourse I had to wait for the cuckoo chime too.

That’s what I love about travel. You set out to see the famous sights, but often it’s the unexpected little discoveries that stay with you long after you’ve returned home.

Just been onboard VIVA Enjoy and I have to say… this ship has such a fun, modern feel to it. Definitely not your typical “traditional” river cruise vibe.

The cabins instantly impressed me — huge balcony windows, loads of storage and honestly one of the biggest shower rooms I’ve seen on a river ship. Everything felt bright, fresh and really spacious.

Food onboard was another highlight. Smaller plates but packed with flavour and all beautifully served to the table rather than buffet style, which made it feel much more special. The Bistro was probably the most fun dining spot for me, whilst Moments had a lovely evening atmosphere — both are worth booking for dinner. Riverside felt a little livelier and had more of that classic cruise energy in the evenings.

What I really loved overall was the atmosphere onboard. Stylish but relaxed, modern without trying too hard and just a really easy ship to enjoy. I can completely see why VIVA Cruises are getting so much attention right now.

Just back from an amazing educational trip cruising the Danube with Viva Cruises alongside a brilliant small group of fellow Travel Counsellors.

We sailed through four countries (including two that were brand new to me) and it has deepened my love for river cruising even more. I first fell for it on a short break in Vienna, but experiencing the Danube on a full itinerary has given me so many new insights and ideas to share.

Regensburg completely took me by surprise today.

Our Danube river cruise brought us to this beautiful medieval city, and it quietly stole the show. From crossing the famous Stone Bridge, which has been standing since the 1100s, to wandering the colourful old town streets with a gelato in hand, it felt like stepping into a storybook.

History lovers would be in heaven here. The Romans built a fortress on this spot almost 2,000 years ago, and even Oskar Schindler once lived in the city. Every corner seems to have a story to tell.
But my favourite part? Sitting in the sunshine by the river, watching the Danube sparkle beneath the bridge as river cruisers glided by and locals went about their day.

River cruising lets you wake up somewhere new every morning, and places like Regensburg are exactly why so many people fall in love with it.

Tiny sausages. Big history. 🍺🌭

No visit to Nuremberg is complete without bratwurst, a local beer and warm apple strudel — but did you know the famous Nuremberg sausages are skinny for a reason?

Back in medieval times, local butchers faced strict rules on ingredients, weight and pricing. During grain shortages, they couldn’t simply raise prices… so they got clever instead. By making the sausages thinner, they could use fewer resources while still selling the same portion size.

And then there’s the legendary local tale…

It’s said the sausages were made so slender they could be passed through the keyholes of the city gates after curfew to feed hungry late-night travellers. True or not, it’s definitely one of the tastiest stories in Germany.

Safe to say today’s lunch was full of history… and absolutely delicious. 🍻🥨

Passport, boarding pass… and straight to Bavaria 🇩🇪✈️

Yesterdays little adventure is a quick hop over to beautiful Nuremberg where I’m staying overnight near the gorgeous Old Town 🏰

I’ve already discovered that Nuremberg is famous for its medieval city walls, its iconic little gingerbread treats called Lebkuchen… and of course one of the oldest Christmas markets in the world 🎄✨ Apparently the market has been running since the 1500s and I can only imagine how magical these streets look during festive season with all the lights and wooden stalls.

For now, I’m off to wander the cobbled streets, admire the colourful timbered houses and soak up a little Bavarian charm.
