Possibly my favourite ever video. I filmed this pair of lions up on the Busanga Plains last week.
The grace. The synchronised walking. That look of exhaustion on the male’s face, yet still such majesty.
Busanga is my spiritual home, but I lead safaris all over Africa. Sharing moments like this is why I love what I do.

Rare species and spaces in Zambia for 2026

Zambia is one of the safari countries we know best, and availability at the Classic Zambia Safaris camps is usually very hard to come by. Among those who really know Zambia, these camps have built a very loyal following for their guiding, conservation background and exceptional locations in some of the country’s best wildlife areas.

For that reason, space rarely sits around for long. However, due to a few unfortunate and reluctant cancellations, there are now a handful of openings in 2026. That gives us a rare chance to offer some excellent Zambia safari options in what would normally be a very full season.

For 2026, there are still a small number of opportunities using some of our favourite camps in the Kafue and Lower Zambezi. These are two of Africa’s great wildlife areas, offering space, atmosphere, superb guiding and the kind of safari experience that still feels genuinely wild.

Classic Zambia’s camps have a reputation for exactly the things we value most: extremely skilled guides, small camps in exceptional locations, and a very real commitment to conservation. Their roots are in long-term work in the field, including the development and support of Musekese Conservation, and that shows in the way their safaris are run.

We can arrange for you space in early July at Musekese Camp and Ntemwa-Busanga Camp, both in Kafue National Park.

There is also some late October availability at Chula Island Camp in the Lower Zambezi, Ntemwa-Busanga Camp in Kafue, and potentially Lwenge River Camp, a new camp in central Kafue.

Millions of bats. One extraordinary safari.
Each November, literally millions of straw-coloured fruit bats—estimated at between five and ten million—gather in a remarkably small area of forest in Kasanka National Park.

They arrive from across Central and equatorial Africa, with some individuals travelling more than 2,500 kilometres. At dusk, they pour out across the sky in vast numbers to feed on wild fruits and flowers, dispersing seeds and pollinating plants as they go. Eagles and other predators are drawn to the movement, while dawn brings the equally impressive sight of the bats returning to the forest.

It is one of the most remarkable wildlife spectacles in Africa and a completely different kind of safari experience. Kasanka also offers excellent birding, quiet wetlands and the chance to see sitatunga in one of their best-known habitats.

The four-night safari costs US$1,950 per person sharing, based on a minimum of four guests, including full-board mobile camp accommodation, activities and return road transfers from Lusaka.
