🎨 Coming up… September Art Month in Malmesbury!
From this weekend, look out for the High Street Gallery appearing in shops and businesses around town, organised by malmesburytowncouncil .

From 11–24 September, the John Bowen Gallery will host an exhibition of artwork by talented local young people, presented by caerbladon CIC and supported by Malmesbury Carnival

The Flying Monk Art Trail returns on the final weekend of September, inviting you into the homes, studios and pop-up spaces of local artists. Follow Malmesbury Flying Monk Art Trail for details.

You’ll also find remarkably realistic nature drawings by Charlton artist Melissa Yates , created using pencil, graphite and charcoal, in the High Street Gallery.

Plus, new adult workshops are now available to book, with a Thursday after-school art club for ages 13+ coming soon.

September is shaping up to be a wonderfully creative month in Malmesbury! 🎨

What an incredible occasion yesterday’s Malmesbury Carnival Parade was! 🎉

A huge thank you to the organisers, volunteers and participants who put so much time, energy and creativity into making it happen, and to everyone who lined the streets to watch, cheer and join in the fun.

Our wonderful community makes Malmesbury such a special place, and yesterday showed it at its very best. 💛

Did you know… 🐅
Malmesbury is believed to have been home to the first person to have been killed by a tiger in England!

Stories passed down through the generations tell that that Hannah Twynnoy was a barmaid working at a pub called the White Lion in Malmesbury (8 Gloucester Street, later converted to a private house) in 1703 when a menagerie arrived to set up in the pub’s large rear yard.

Among the animals there was a tiger, which Hannah was warned against upsetting. She liked bothering the animal until one day it got tired, and mauled her! Sadly Hannah did not survive and the tale of her grisly end is still visible today on her gravestone in the grounds of Malmesbury Abbey.

She’s snatchd from hence,
She had not room
To make defence;
For Tyger fierce
Took Life away.
And here she lies
In a bed of Clay,
Until the Resurrection Day.”
