Tucked away in Ancoats, historically known as "Little Italy", Anita Street is the kind of place you’d walk past without realising how much has happened there!
Once part of Manchester’s industrial pulse, this quiet street has watched the city change — from factory days to the creative neighbourhood it sits in today❤️
The bricks, the angles, the stillness… every corner tells a story from Manchester's past✨
Originally built in 1897 as "Sanitary Street", representing one of the city's first pioneering social housing developments, the street was renamed "Anita Street", likely by simply altering letters on the original sign, after the term "Sanitary" lost its positive connotation and became a source of embarrassment for residents.
Fun fact: if it feels oddly familiar, you’re not imagining it 👀 - a certain very crunchy British crisp brand once chose this exact spot as a filming location - can you guess which one it is? 😅
This is exactly the kind of places we’ll be stopping on our food tours — not just to eat, but to pause, look around and uncover how food, streets and everyday life shaped Manchester😍
Because the best bites always come with a story behind 🐝🍴
