There's a very special all-day gorgeous guided walk coming up soon through REGENT'S PARK, INCLUDING THE NEW QUEEN ELIZABETH II GARDEN, PRIMROSE HILL AND HAMPSTEAD HEATH. I'll be doing it twice: Sunday 6th and Tuesday 8th September, both meeting at 10.45am outside Regent's Park tube station, and finishing about 4.30pm (£20). And a quick word about two walks coming up later in the month: HOORAY FOR HENDON! on Sunday September 27th at 11am, and a JACK THE RIPPER COMMEMORATIVE WALK on Wednesday September 30th at 6.30pm, in honour of two of his victims murdered on September 30th 1888 (both walks £15). Hoping to see you soon! In the meantime, here are some photos of those three gorgeous green spaces, including the Queen Elizabeth II Garden. Please join me if you can on Saturday August 15th for a fun and historical guided walk through ancient and modern EAST BARNET VILLAGE. East Barnet boasts an ancient wood, some lovely buildings, famous residents, including royalty, a more than 900-year-old church, and the award-winning Oak Hill Park. We will also see the Ghosts' Promenade, amongst many other delights, old and new. We meet at the war memorial at the roundabout at the bottom of Church Hill Rd EN4 8SX at 2.30pm. The walk lasts two hours, and costs £15. Please phone/text 07506 761294 or email [email protected] to book. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy looking at a few photos. Paul (City of London guide)

I'm going back to basics in August, with guided walks in THE CITY OF LONDON and WESTMINSTER, the two most iconic areas of London, including Roman Londinium, medieval alleyways, The Great Plague and The Great Fire of London, St Paul’s Cathedral, The Bank of England, The Palace of Westminster, Westminster Abbey, The Foreign Office, 10 Downing St, etc. etc. Money, power, monarchy and politics. If you join me for both walks, you’ll get a great overview of the history of London. Of course, each walk is independent and can be enjoyed on its own if you wish. For the City of London, we meet on Sunday August 2nd at 11am outside St Paul's tube station. For Westminster we meet on Saturday August 22nd at 2.30pm at Westminster tube station. Both walks last two hours, and cost £15. I hope to see you soon. Paul (City of London guide)

Are you interested in the lives of the famous? Go on, I'll bet you are. Well, on Saturday July 11th at 2.30pm I'll be leading a guided walk IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF THE FAMOUS (and infamous) IN HIGH BARNET AND MONKEN HADLEY. From kings and queens to Prime Ministers, from Samuel Pepys to Dickens, from John Wesley to John Betjeman, from Thackeray to Kingsley Amis, from David Livingstone to Spike Milligan (to name but a few), they've all lived or stayed here. Walk with me in their footsteps, meeting outside High Barnet tube station. The walk lasts two hours, and costs £15. Please join me if you can. Paul 07506 761294 [email protected]

Please join me next Sunday June 28th at 11am for a guided tour of GOLDERS GREEN: formerly a rural part of the parish of Hendon, and today a fascinating urban melting-pot of Jews, Greeks, Japanese and Koreans, with some fascinating buildings to match. The walk starts and ends at Golders Green tube station. And before that, I'll be doing two midweek walks in HERNE HILL AND BROCKWELL PARK, a lovely part of south London. Brockwell Park is beautiful, offering gorgeous views from the Georgian Mansion at the top of the hill. And the old English garden is a total delight, not to be missed. We meet on Tuesday June 23rd at 10.15am and Wednesday 24th at 1.15pm at St Pancras station. Both walks last two hours, and cost £15, and you can find further details and book on [email protected] or 07506 761294. Hoping to see you soon. Paul (City of London guide)

Please join me if you can next Saturday June 20th at 11am for a guided walk in wonderful SPITALFIELDS. We will look at the history of the area, including 14th century remains, and its fascinating history of immigration, including French Huguenot silk-weavers, Jews, Bengalis etc. We'll see some fabulous buildings, including Christ Church Spitalfields (pictured), and a Huguenot chapel, still standing, which later became first a synagogue, then a mosque; and we'll see some famous examples of street art. We'll also see how the area has recently become gentrified, sometimes controversially so, attracting artists like Gilbert and George (whose house we'll see). We meet outside Whitechapel Art Gallery (Aldgate EAST tube, exit 3). And the following week I'll be guiding midweek in HERNE HILL AND BROCKWELL PARK, a lovely part of south London. Brockwell Park is beautiful, offering gorgeous views from the Mansion at the top of the hill. And the walled garden is a total delight, not to be missed. We meet on Tuesday June 23rd at 10.15am and Wednesday 24th at 1.15pm at St Pancras station, Thameslink ticket barriers. Both walks last two hours, and cost £15. I've got a rare treat coming up on Sunday June 14th at 2.30pm -- a guided walk in TERRIFIC TOTTERIDGE, one of the wealthiest and loveliest of all London suburbs, with stunning Georgian and Arts and Crafts houses, famous names, a gorgeous green, and a great deal more. The walk begins and ends outside Totteridge & Whetstone tube station. And on Tuesday May 26th at 10.45am and Wednesday May 27th at 1.45pm I'll be exploring STOCKWELL, a rural village until well into the 19th century which has retained many Victorian houses of striking architectural beauty, especially around Albert Square. The walk begins and ends at Stockwell tube station. Both walks last two hours, and cost £15. Bookings: please email [email protected] or phone/text 07506 761294. Paul, City of London guide.

I hope that you cool cats who came to COOL CAMDEN TOWN with me last Sunday, and some of those of you who didn't, will join me on Sunday May 17th at 2.30pm, when I'll be exploring neighbouring COOL KENTISH TOWN, meeting outside Camden Town tube station. The tour lasts two hours, and costs £15. And there are still spaces for my STOCKWELL walk, exploring a very lovely part of south London, on Tuesday May 26th at 10.45am and Wednesday May 27th at 1.45pm, meeting at Stockwell tube station. Also £15. Please phone/text 07506 761294 for bookings, or email [email protected]. Paul (City of London guide)

I hope that all you cool cats (as well as uncool ones, like myself) will come with me to COOL CAMDEN TOWN on Sunday May 10th, for a guided walk meeting at 2.30pm outside Camden Town tube station. We'll explore a fascinating past of railways and canals (Camden Lock pictured: and we'll find out why the name Camden Lock is incorrect), and a pulsating present of street art, stand-up comedy, modern music and markets. And the following Sunday May 17th, also at 2.30pm, I'll be exploring neighbouring COOL KENTISH TOWN, also meeting outside Camden Town tube station. Each tour lasts two hours, and costs £15. BUT ... join me for both, on consecutive Sundays, and you'll save £5 (£25 total for both walks). And there are still spaces for my walk examining CITY OF LONDON PLAQUES AND SCULPTURES next Tuesday May 12th at 10.45am and Wednesday May 13th at 1.45pm, meeting at Liverpool St station. Also £15. Please phone/text 07506 761294 for bookings, or email [email protected]. Paul (City of London guide)

Please join me on Sunday April 19th at 11am outside Barnet College, Wood St EN5 4AZ for a two-hour guided tour of THE HEART OF HIGH BARNET. See the brewery that became a town hall and a church that became a shopping centre. Marvel at some truly beautiful old houses and almshouses. Hear about a fair that was so famous that Cossacks flocked to it, and so infamous that the Victorians tried to close it down. Hear about the famous Battle of Barnet. This is the first of a two-part tour of the Barnet area. The following Sunday April 26th at 11am, the tour continues from where this one ends, at the Spires, exploring beautiful MONKEN HADLEY VILLAGE, and its green spaces, beautiful 18th-century houses, and famous inhabitants. Each tour costs £15, £5 under 12s. Both tours can be enjoyed separately if you can only come to one. But if you come to both, you'll only pay £10 for the second walk (£25 total). Oh, and there's still time to book for the 555th anniversary BATTLE OF BARNET walk on Tuesday April 14th at 11am (£15). Please email [email protected] or phone/text 07506 761294 for further info and bookings. See you soon, I hope! Paul (City of London guide)
