🚢 Celebrity Ascent Accessible Cabin Tour 🚢

One of the questions I’m asked most often is:

“What are accessible cabins actually like on a cruise ship?”

Whilst sailing on Celebrity Ascent, we stayed in an accessible cabin and I thought I’d give you a quick tour.

A few features that really stood out to us were:

♿ Automatic cabin door entry
♿ Pull-down wardrobe rail for easier access to clothing
♿ Spacious accessible bathroom with contactless doors
♿ Plenty of room to manoeuvre around the cabin
♿ Hoists available for access into the swimming pools

It’s often the little details that can make a huge difference to someone’s holiday experience and confidence when travelling.

Accessible travel doesn’t have to mean compromising on comfort, and seeing these features first-hand is invaluable when planning a trip.

🦁 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐑𝐎𝐀𝐑𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐋𝐈𝐎𝐍 𝐎𝐅 𝐌𝐄𝐒𝐒𝐈𝐍𝐀 🦁

Have you ever visited a destination and stumbled across something completely unexpected?

When our cruise docked in Messina, Sicily, one attraction we were determined to see was the famous astronomical clock tower, just a short walk from the port.

Every day at noon, crowds gather beneath the clock tower waiting for the moment the golden lion roars and begins to move. Hearing the reaction from everyone around us made it even more special.

The clock was inaugurated in 1933 and is considered one of the largest and most complex astronomical clocks in the world.

What I loved most was that this wasn’t a paid attraction or excursion. It’s right in the heart of the city and gives visitors a glimpse into the history and traditions of Messina.

It’s a great reminder that sometimes you don’t need to travel far from the ship to discover something memorable.

As a travel consultant, I find everyone is different. Some clients will only fly from their local airport, whilst others are happy to travel further for the right holiday, flight time or price.

☀️ 𝗜𝗧’𝗦 𝗚𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗧 𝗧𝗢 𝗕𝗘 𝗕𝗔𝗖𝗞! ☀️

After a fantastic cruise around the Mediterranean, it’s been lovely to get back into the office and catch up with everyone.

Firstly, a huge thank you for all your enquiries and for your patience whilst I was away. You have certainly kept me busy since returning! 😊

This week I’ve been working on:

One of the things I love most about this job is that no two days are ever the same. One minute I’m researching orangutans in Borneo, the next I’m comparing cruise cabins or planning a fly-drive adventure across America.

The sunshine has certainly helped this week too! I’ve had the office door wide open most days, making the most of the weather and getting through the mountain of washing that seems to come home after every cruise! 😂

It’s also meant I’ve been able to welcome the occasional visitor… including my furry office supervisor, who seems to think he owns the place! 🐱

I’ll be working throughout the weekend catching up on enquiries, so if you’ve spotted a holiday online and would like me to see if I can match it, beat it, or simply offer some advice, please do get in touch.

I hope you’ve enjoyed following along with our cruise adventures over the last couple of weeks! 🚢☀️

It’s been lovely sharing the destinations, ship life and accessibility insights with you all, but now it’s time to swap cocktails and sea views for emails and holiday quotes again 😄

❓ 𝐇𝐀𝐒 𝐀𝐍𝐘𝐎𝐍𝐄 𝐁𝐄𝐄𝐍 𝐓𝐎 𝐍𝐀𝐏𝐋𝐄𝐒? 🇮🇹

Today didn’t quite go according to plan… but that’s travel sometimes and I think it’s important to share the reality too!

We started the morning by treating ourselves to breakfast delivered to the cabin (definitely a lovely way to start the day ☕🥐), before leaving the ship around 10am with plans for a pasta-making class.

After navigating some very challenging roads and pavements in the manual wheelchair, we eventually arrived… only to discover there had been a mix up and the class venue had a private event on. Unfortunately the person running the class wasn’t available until the evening, which wouldn’t work with our all aboard time. 😟

Not to be defeated, we switched plans and headed for the Naples Archaeological Museum instead. Alan had been really looking forward to seeing some of the incredible artefacts from Pompeii. Being a huge history fan (hours of history programmes definitely paying off here! 😄), he already knew Pompeii itself would likely have accessibility challenges and heavy crowds, so the museum felt like a great alternative.

Our next lesson of the day? Don’t always trust Google Maps walking times! 🙈 We decided to walk the 20 minutes to the museum, but it was mostly uphill and the roads and pavements were extremely difficult in a manual wheelchair. We got there eventually… but wow, we had definitely earned our museum visit by then!

The museum itself was interesting and we enjoyed exploring, although perhaps it wasn’t quite what Alan had imagined. So after being sensible (for once 😂), we jumped in a taxi back to the ship.

This evening is all about packing, sorting our onboard account, collecting our professional photos and enjoying one last show before we say goodbye to this beautiful ship tomorrow. I genuinely can’t believe how quickly this cruise has gone. 😟

Sometimes travel days are picture-perfect and sometimes they throw little surprises your way… but those are usually the days that end up becoming the stories you remember!

☀️ 𝐒𝐏𝐋𝐈𝐓… 𝐂𝐑𝐎𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐀 𝐘𝐎𝐔 𝐀𝐑𝐄 𝐁𝐄𝐀𝐔𝐓𝐈𝐅𝐔𝐋 ☀️

Yesterday we explored the stunning city of Split and what a fantastic day it turned out to be. 🇭🇷

As soon as we stepped off the ship, me and Alan headed straight to meet our tuk tuk driver for our tour. There was a slight hiccup at first as the wheelchair would not fit, but within 5 minutes another vehicle arrived that could accommodate us perfectly.

Our driver, Gabriel, was absolutely brilliant. Not only did he show us around the city, but he also shared stories about Croatian culture, local life and his family’s history working in the area to afford to continue living there. It really gave us a much deeper insight into the destination beyond just the tourist sights.

We stopped at several breathtaking viewpoints overlooking the Adriatic coastline before finishing at the incredible Diocletian’s Palace.

Of course, we also had to try one of the local specialities — 𝐛𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐤 — whilst soaking up the atmosphere and watching the world go by. 😍

Afterwards we spent time wandering through the small stone streets and hidden corners of the old town, which honestly felt full of charm at every turn.

💡 𝐒𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐭 𝐓𝐢𝐩𝐬:
• A tuk tuk tour is a fantastic way to see the viewpoints and old town if you are limited on time from a cruise ship.
• The old town is beautiful but some streets are uneven underfoot, so comfortable footwear is definitely recommended.
• Don’t leave without trying fresh burek from a local bakery! 😍

Croatia really is becoming one of my favourite cruise destinations. 💙
