🇧🇸 People-to-People – experience the REAL Bahamas

One of the things that really stood out to me during my Bahamas Specialist training was the People-to-People programme.

The more I learned about it, the more I loved the whole idea behind it.

This isn’t a tour with a guide following a set route. It’s not a coach trip or a normal organised excursion.

It’s about meeting real Bahamians who actually live on the islands and experiencing a little bit of their life.

The People-to-People ambassadors are volunteers. They’re not doing this as a job. They volunteer because they genuinely love where they live and want visitors to experience the Bahamas they know and love.

And that’s what makes it feel so authentic.

You’ll be matched with a Bahamian individual, couple or family who has similar interests to you. That could be food, music, fishing, history, nature, hiking or simply learning more about everyday island life.

You might be welcomed into their home and discover how they cook traditional Bahamian food. You might find out where they go with their own family to eat, socialise or celebrate. You could visit a beach that locals love, learn about their community, talk about the island’s history or spend time doing something you’re both interested in.

It’s not about being shown the Bahamas created for tourists.

It’s about being introduced to the Bahamas by somebody who actually calls it home. 🇧🇸

The ambassadors are screened and certified by the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism, and you’re matched according to things such as your interests, hobbies, age and occupation.

And here’s something that surprised me…

The whole programme is completely FREE.

🚨 IMPORTANT FERRY TRAVEL UPDATE – PASSPORTS REQUIRED FROM 28 SEPTEMBER 🚨

If you’re travelling by ferry between Ireland and Wales this autumn, please don’t assume your driving licence will be enough ID.

🛳️ From 28 September, passengers travelling with Irish Ferries or Stena Line on affected Ireland–Wales routes will need to show a valid passport or passport card before boarding.

This includes:

🇮🇪 Dublin ↔ Holyhead
🇮🇪 Rosslare ↔ Fishguard
🇮🇪 Rosslare ↔ Pembroke

⚠️ This applies to EVERY passenger – including children.
Children travelling with parents or family will need their own passport/passport card too.

🚗 A driving licence will NOT be accepted instead.

Stena Line has confirmed there is currently no change for passengers travelling on its routes involving Belfast, Liverpool, Cairnryan or Heysham.

The ferry companies say the new checks are being introduced to meet UK Border Force passenger-data requirements, bringing these ferry routes more in line with the document checks already carried out by airlines.

On 10th October I’m sailing on Liberty of the Seas for our 6-night Norwegian Fjords cruise.

We’ve only got two ports:

⚓ Stavanger
⚓ Oslo – where Liberty stays OVERNIGHT! 🌙

And I’ve decided to turn this cruise into a bit of an experiment for our Royal Caribbean Junkies…

I’m going to research exactly what we can do ourselves from the ship.

I want to see whether we can have fantastic days ashore by organising things ourselves, rather than automatically booking cruise excursions.

And with Liberty staying overnight in Oslo, there’s no mad dash back to the ship!

We can explore during the day, head back to Liberty if we want, go back out in the evening and enjoy Oslo without constantly checking the time. ❤️

I’ll share all my research before we go – prices, routes, maps and what I’ve found.
