Another interesting story featuring Orford thanks to for permission to use image . Here is the original post.
In 1167 or there about, some fishermen from the small East Anglian village of Orford felt an unusually heavy pull on their nets.
Looking down they are shocked to see that todays catch is a man, tall and strong, covered in hair and angry at being trapped.
He is taken to the castle and imprisoned for six months, refusing to talk (or unable) he is beaten and will only eat raw fish which he squeezes first.
Over time the man is allowed to swim and one day he evades the nets left to pen him in and is never seen again. His story is remembered in carvings throughout the town. Merman? Foreign sailor? Wild man?
