“I didn’t know Bob Marley from Adam. Our manager said he was a musician and a keen footballer but the name didn’t register. I remember he was quiet-spoken, almost shy, and his hair was long and looked, frankly, as if it was matted together and needed a good wash.”But Marley floored him when they got talking about Celtic, saying: “Oh, you know I’m a big Celtic fan. I would love to go to Scotland to see Celtic Park and maybe even kick a few balls there. I know all about Jock Stein. I love reading about British football teams and Celtic has always been my team. And now it is my son Rohan’s team. He’s only six but he loves Celtic. I can’t tell you how much I envy you having played at Celtic Park.We had a chat about all things Celtic and I was greatly impressed by the great man’s football knowledge. And when we got down to training, I was just as impressed by his football ability.”

Lorraine McIntosh of Deacon Blue turns 60 today.

The Scottish singer has also acted in the likes of River City, Taggart, Outlander, Shetland and the Ken Loach film My Name Is Joe.

In 2017, she told The Herald: "You go through a stage when you’re younger and a bit more arrogant when you say, ‘I wish they’d talk about another song (than Dignity)'.

"Then you grow up a bit and realise how lucky we are that so many people feel the need to tell you how important a song has been in their lives. And it’s not just Dignity – songs like Loaded, Chocolate Girl and Wages Day also mean a lot to people.

“A few years ago we were playing Hogmanay in George Square in Glasgow. It was freezing when we were sound-checking in the afternoon and the only people around were the council workers putting out the grit.

"We would never normally do Dignity at a soundcheck, but one of the council guys shouted out, ‘Come on Ricky, do Dignity for us.'

"And we looked at each other and said – why not, let’s do it. And we did. It was absolutely brilliant – the song was about them and they knew it. It was such a lovely moment.”

Reduced Entry Admission🦁🐒🐍

For anyone that missed our previous post, we are now trialling a reduced day admission rate. We have been significantly quieter this winter and understand not everyone has the same disposable income they once had. We would like to make a day out to our zoo more affordable by trialling this reduced day admission price until Thursday 30th November.

Child £6.00
Concession £9.00
Family ticket £31.00 (2 adults & 2 children)
Under 3: Free

Our November opening hours are 10am - 4pm (last admission 2.30pm). Tickets cannot be purchased online; they should be purchased from the ticket desk on arrival.
