A PLEA TO TOURISTS
WE BEG YOU..PLEASE, PLEASE DO NOT BUY THESE CRAP BODYBOARDS.
I am still seeing far too many of these `single-use` bodyboards` that cost around a tenner.
Over 15,000 of them are bought each summer and virtually every single one of them is going to end up smashed to pieces in a matter of minutes or hours, floating out to sea or discarded on our beaches.
WHY ARE THEY SO BAD?
They are made in China and then transported over 11,000 miles. They are made from a 2-inch sheet of polystyrene and wrapped in a thin sheet of nylon. While they might look the part, they usually break after a few minutes’ use and leaving your children in tears and dumping them. They might be cheap, but they are nasty too and a massive waste of money. Buy cheap, buy twice.
Try if you can, to buy at least a better quality board for your kids. Stay away from the ones that have cartoons to attract the kids. Perhaps the kids can share a better quality one but it will at least last for a few summers if looked after, or buy a wooden bellyboard that will last your family for many years and stores so easily in your car.
Try hiring a board from a local surf shop, many hire them out for not much money you will be putting much-needed funds into the local economy.
Unfortunately, many tacky beach shops and supermarkets are still selling these and are as much to blame as the consumers if not more to blame for keeping the demand and distribution rates high but in reality, until they are stopped from entering the country, greedy shop owners will continue to be crap bodyboard dealers.
A huge percentage of the microplastics found here in the water are from these pathetically made boards and polystyrene balls are littering our shorelines and killing our marine life.
DO NOT BUY THESE, WE BEG YOU...
Please be conscious...
