When you come to Turkey, you'll find delicious food everywhere!!

Today’s Foodie Friday post introduces a popular and traditional culinary delight. One we thoroughly enjoy when we’re in Kalkan or at home over a leisurely weekend.

It’s the ever so yummy Menemen - a colourful dish, pleasing to both the eye and taste buds.

Marvellous menemen is a fabulous all-rounder, served for breakfast, brunch, or quite frankly, at almost any time of the day. Serve with freshly baked bread, and dipping is essential – it’s worth it!

Staple ingredients make it an all-year round appetising and nutritional meal.

Why not try making it at home this weekend? It's super simple.
Lightly scramble eggs, finely chopped tomatoes, green peppers, and spices you adore.
Optional additions can include onions, sucuk (Turkish spicy sausage), cheese, pastirma or minced lamb, or beef.

Look out for this on your next visit to Kalkan. You’ll find pure delight in every bite. 😋

Turkish soups - as with all Turkish cuisine, has influences from far and wide owing to migration of populations and trade from surrounding countries and further afield, plus the odd invasion/occupation of course!⠀

And as with many cultures, soups were often made from the little available during winter months or times of famine although nowadays many soups are an absolute feast!⠀
⠀
Possibly the most famous is Red Lentil Soup; recipes have been passed down through millennia with mention of something similar back in the bible!⠀

Esau had been out on the fields all day. Seizing the opportunity, Jacob asked for his brother’s birth rights in return for a bowl of his lentil pottage. Esau, starving, accepted. A sly move or an exceptional chef? ⠀

You'll find this soup and many variations of it year round, in local restaurants and soup restaurants in main towns. It's lovely creamy texture, slight garlic taste, served with wedges of lemon and often topped with a chilly butter, flakes and chopped parsley is a sensational delight for your taste buds.⠀

Today’s Foodie Friday is an excellent choice for something a little different over the festive holidays. It’s a dish that can be prepared either fresh or with leftover meat and it’ll knock your socks off!!

It’s Ali Nazik Kebab 😋.

A scrumptious, Gaziantep speciality, Ali Nazik is a meat eaters paradise! It is a delicious marriage of garlicky yoghurt on a bed of aubergine puree and topped with tender lamb stew, and finally drizzled with a spiced, melted butter sauce. It really is a feast to all senses and a special dish to share.
