What a beautiful evening with a lovely group of ladies, all dedicated volunteers, at Stotfold Watermill Nature Reserve!

We loved their adventurous spirit, sense of humour, and deep affection for the reserve they have helped build, nurture, and care for over the past 20 and more years.

The reserve was pure magic, with its rich variety of habitats and an abundance of spiders, from small to impressively large, adding to the night's sense of wonder. Nature treated us to glowing fungi, blue and red plants, and hairy caterpillars! 🕷️ 🍄‍🟫

Against the backdrop of a stunning sunset, we were treated to an incredible display as 4 Noctule bats hunted in plain sight overhead. We paused for quite some time simply to enjoy their spectacular aerial performance. 🦇

Common and Soprano Pipistrelles also made fantastic appearances throughout the evening. No two walks are ever the same, but we hope the bats put on a similarly amazing show during our upcoming Sunday walk at the reserve!

What a fantastic weekend of nature adventures! 🦇⛵ 🔦

We came away feeling completely recharged after two wonderful walks with amazing explorers from across Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire.

On Saturday, we led a Bat and Biofluorescence Walk for 17 members of the North Herts & East Beds Sailing Club at the Blue Lagoon near Arlesey. Children and adults alike enjoyed seeing grasses and insects in a whole new light and discovering the remarkable variety of bat species that call the lake home. It was a beautiful evening filled with wonder and discovery.

Sunday's walk was equally special, with spectacular displays of biofluorescence and the successful identification of Pipistrelle and Myotis bat species by our enthusiastic adventurers.

Thank you to everyone who joined us! Experience the magic for yourself and book your adventure by visiting the website on our page.

On Friday, we had the most wonderful and inspiring 'Biofluorescence and Bat Detection' nature adventure with 10 teenagers and 13 carers from Hitchin Choices! 🦇🔦

We had an incredible experience connecting with the young people and their carers through nature. Everyone was curious, engaged, and quick to answer Dr Dell's science questions!

Seeing the excitement when the young people detected their first bat or discovered the glowing colours of nature after dark reminded us why we love what we do. Thank you for joining us and we hope to see you again soon! ❤️

On Sunday, we had such a great time with a wonderful family from Meldreth, including our youngest explorer so far!

The biofluorescence was beautiful, with red and blue glowing grasses and plants, spiders of all sizes, caterpillars, and moths 🐛 The bat detection was equally thrilling - we observed two species of pipistrelle bats, the Common Pipistrelle and the Soprano Pipistrelle, and detected a Noctule bat at the start of the walk. Towards the end, we also picked up calls that we believe may have come from a Brown Long-eared bat. 🦇

Thank you - it truly was a magical evening, and we returned home feeling recharged after sharing this special experience with four curious adventures! 🙏

We joined a wonderful butterfly walk organised by Friends of Therfield Heath - Royston in collaboration with the Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust!

Nature provided a window of opportunity to explore the Therfield Heath and its unique butterfly habitats! In between rain showers, we observed five butterfly species: Common Blue, Adonis Blue, Chalkhill Blue, Small Heath and Meadow Brown!

Inspired by yesterday's adventure, we searched our garden today and found Small Copper, Common Blue and Small white! 🦋

The Biofluorescence and Bat Detection walks over the weekend were inspiring and recharging on so many levels! While we encountered an incredible range of wildlife, this weekend was really about the lovely humans who made the experience so special.

Watching curious minds of all ages connect over shared moments, like spotting a bat for the first time or catching a shooting star, felt as though nature was weaving us all together. The children were amazing: so sharp, intuitive, and eager to explore. The adults were completely present, generous, and filled with wonder.

Between the vivid glowing colours of biofluorescence and identifying six distinct bat species - Common & Soprano Pips, Noctule, Serotine, Natterer’s, and Brown Long-eared bats - it felt almost dreamlike.

We didn't take many photos, but we walked away with unforgettable memories of amazing people from different generations gently interacting with nature and each other! 🦇🔦✨ Join the magic: www.naturenell.com
